No Date Set for 3rd Round of Syria PeaceTalks

2014/02/15

GENEVA, February 15 (RIA Novosti) – No date has been agreed for the next round of Syrian peace talks as the second one ended with a final session between the government and opposition in Geneva on Saturday.

Opposition negotiator Ahmad Jakal told reporters Saturday that the final “short” and “tense” session was marked by differences over how to tackle the process of political transition, Reuters reported.

“Mr (Lakhdar) Brahimi set no date for a third round but he made it clear he expects there will be one," he was quoted as saying, referring to the international mediator in the talks.

A source close to the peace talks told RIA Novosti that no more sessions are planned for the second round that ended with no progress for the rival sides.

Saturday became the round’s sixth day of the talks, initiated by the United States and Russia, aimed at ending the three-year civil war.
