Sweden denies crimes of Lula and Dilma in Gripen fighter

GGN News - The BBC reported on Tuesday that Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven testified before the courts under the Zelotes operation and denied any wrongdoing or immorality practiced by Lula, Dilma, Saab or the Swedish government. in the negotiations involving the purchase of 36 Gripen fighters by the Brazilian government, for 5.4 billion dollars, in 2014.

The Swedish government and Saab are not among the defendants in the criminal case in Brasilia. Already Lula is accused of having practiced influence traffic with  Dilma when Brazil acquired the fighters. The operation would have involved bribes and the couple of lobbyists Mauro Marcondes and Cristina Mautoni, of M & M (Marcondes and Mautoni Empreendimentos), the office contracted by Saab to represent it.

In the matter, the Swedish premier says he is unaware of any "illegal, immoral or undue influence" of Lula and Dilma, and confirmed that he followed Saab's campaign to have Gripen chosen by the Brazilian government.

Negotiations with Brazil dragged on since the FHC government. And the prize, formerly, served as a union leader at IF Metall, who also participated in the Gripen pro-hunting campaign.

The premier also denied another assumption made by Zelotes prosecutors: "(...) according to MPF prosecutors, then party leader Löfven would have met with Lula and Dilma to address the matter during the funeral of former South African leader Nelson Mandela in South Africa in 2013. The claim, denied by Löfven during his testimony in the Swedish court, is also rejected by the former Brazilian leaders. "

A historic day for feminism in South America

A historic day for feminism in South America

The history of abortion brings so much, but so much controversy that it seems one of those things that can only be spoken about in secret. We know that illegality is not the real reason these conversations only happen in the underworld of women's groups (and the broad spectrum of feminist movements), and I wonder then if it would be the literal fact of the interruption of life that causes us so much discomfort.

by Mariana Nassif / JornalGGN

Translated from the Portuguese version

by Natália Santos

While I cannot find the answer, it is worth mentioning that in Brazil, according to the 2010 National Abortion Survey, more than one in five women between the ages of 18 and 39 have already had an abortion in their lives. The data, drawn up by the anthropologist Debora Diniz and the sociologist Marcelo Medeiros, must be underestimated today, whether by date or by silence that accompanies the subject. According to the WHO, a woman dies every two days in the country because of illegal abortions. And those who die, of course, are the poor women, who cannot afford the private clinics that guarantee the minimum of choice.

The woman does not get pregnant just because she wants to, has she stopped to think about it? Extending the subject well, abortion is also illegal for pregnancy through rape. We can also go for the idea that a child is not made individually, but it is scary to know that Brazil has more than 20 million single mothers, and I assure you that it is not necessarily because they did not want to get married. Machismo is this: the man has priority of choice and the woman gets what is left, and I'm sorry if it touches you more deeply because I'm talking about a baby than the fact that every two days a woman dies aborting.

Religiously, then, I dare expose my point of view, controversial under the watchful eye of spiritualism, that if a soul chooses its peers here, especially its parents, then somehow it has already foreseen that it cannot avenge. And, in any case, the state is (or should be) secular.

The wonder is that this week ahead, in Argentina, these data are heading for change. The bill that allows abortion until the 14th week of gestation has passed approval in the House and goes to the Senate. Even though they were 129 votes in favor and 125 against, the figures make me jaw-drop when it comes to an obviously exclusive issue for those living in the situation. It is still a victory.

In Brazil, unfortunately and as far as my brief research is concerned, the subject sleeps. A 2017 proposal was part of a bill that, cluttered by another position, this one about maternity leave, which contains a clause affirming the right to life "from conception", has not passed even in the Plenary. Sad and still dangerous, especially for poor black women. Let us therefore position ourselves in favor of each and every one of us.

I pray that we, ALL WOMEN, will increasingly occupy the space we want in a safe way, and not only that of incubators of children, queens of the home and that we have more and more laws that will support us so that , at least in the eyes of the righteous, let us remain alive - and yes, feminism is of that same size.

The Huckabee Sanders scam, part two

2018/06/27

A couple of days ago, I wrote an article, entitled The Sarah Huckabee Sanders Scam (Pravda.Report, June 24, 2018) that discussed the incident where the chief propagandist for America's wannabe dictator was asked to leave a small restaurant in Virginia.  Much has happened since that time, so I thought I would update readers.

1.     Sanders's father Mike Huckabee called the restaurant's actions "bigotry," and described their menu items as "Hate Plates" and "small plates for small minds."

Yet this is the same Mike Huckabee who, a short while earlier, denounced Nancy Pelosi's criticism of separating immigrant children from their parents by tweeting that Pelosi's new "campaign committee" was comprised of Hispanic gang members.  Not only was this tweet condemned as racist, it also ignored the fact that many Hispanic people seeking to immigrate to America are doing so to escape rampant gang violence in their home countries.

And it should not be forgotten that Huckabee was also a vocal proponent of Kim Davis's refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, and even proclaimed that Davis only had to obey laws that she believed were "right."  Now his daughter is quoting the Bible to rationalize why even laws many believe are cruel and unjust, like separating immigrant children from their parents and putting them in cages, must still be obeyed.

2.     Since the Huckabee Sanders incident, or in close proximity to it, the following has also occurred:

a.     A woman threatened to call police on an eight-year-old African-American girl for selling bottled water without a permit;

b.     The United States Supreme Court continued to endorse businesses that discriminate against gays and lesbians by declining to hear a case involving a florist who refused to serve a same-sex couple;

c.      This same court, fortifying its own politicization and corruption, continued to undermine democracy by rubber-stamping racist political gerrymandering;

d.     A transgender woman was kicked out of a restaurant in Washington D.C.;

e.      A pharmacist in Arizona, on alleged "religious" grounds, refused to fill a miscarriage prescription for a customer.

And there is absolutely no doubt that all these actions would be heartily endorsed by Huckabee Sanders, her father, and Donald J. Trump.

3.     And, speaking of Trump, he naturally wasn't going to let the restaurant incident go "untweeted."  In one of his typical puerile rants, he denounced the cleanliness of the restaurant's canopies and criticized its "paint job," stating that "if a restaurant is dirty on the outside, it is dirty on the inside."

If this was the case, it would seem that Huckabee Sanders, instead of complaining, should have been grateful to be booted from an establishment that was allegedly so filthy.  The facts, however, (these are the things that Trump and his supporters so blissfully ignore) state the opposite:  According to an article on the WSCOTV website, the restaurant's recent health inspection "includes no records of violations."  The inspectors even complimented the restaurant for "good food/unit temperatures" and the cleanliness of the staff.

Contrast this with Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort and club.  A recent article in Newsweek revealed that, in January 2017, the resort's two main kitchens had incurred "four basic [health] violations, three intermediate violations, and three high priority violations," including having sushi that was not treated for parasites; in November 2017, these kitchens were "hit with 15 health code violations"; and, in January 2018, the club was cited for "two high priority violations."

4.     Finally, in keeping with his policy of diversion (which I discussed more fully in the article mentioned above), Trump could take an inordinate amount of time criticizing a small restaurant, yet he seemed undisturbed by the news that motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson was shifting more production jobs overseas due to his tariffs.

But hey, what's the loss of American jobs when there are dirty canopies to attack.

Several media outlets and politicians, many of whom have been largely critical of Trump, have now taken great pains to vilify the restaurant that refused to serve Huckabee Sanders.  Democrat Elijah Cummings, for example, stated that Sanders should have been served.

I completely understand that for African-American politicians like Cummings, the denial of service in public accommodations conjures up images of people being refused simply because of their race.  I also understand the cliché that "You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar."

But this ignores another axiom verified by the pages of history:  You can never appease a fascist, so never attempt to do so.

One fundamental tactic of fascism is to create laws, rules, and ethics that your opponents must obey, but your followers can ignore.  This article provides numerous examples of that very reality.

The current demands for "civility" and "respect" are certainly worthy ideals if practiced across the political spectrum.  But Trump and Huckabee's hypocritical, fatuous tweets, and Huckabee Sanders's own rudeness and mendacity, clearly demonstrate they have no desire to reciprocate the "civility" and "respect" they expect their critics to adhere to.

In fact, the real reason fascists demand "civil" and "respectful" discourse from their opponents is so they can paint them as weak and lacking in the capacity to passionately defend their principles.  Hitler, for example, didn't take Neville Chamberlain's appeasement as a show of respect; he took it as an invitation to seize more and more territory.

While there is virtually no chance that the denial of service to a soulless person like Huckabee Sanders will cause her, or those of her ilk, to develop any empathy for people who are denied service, or unjustly targeted, because of their race or sexual orientation, at least she was treated the way she expected others to be treated.

EU and Western Sahara: The Hassle and the Controversy!

2018/06/26

EU and Western Sahara: The Hassle and the Controversy!

El-Aaiun, Western Sahara: On Monday, June 11th of 2018, the European Commission adopted an agreement in the form of an exchange of letters between Morocco and the European Union (EU) in order to grant preferential tariffs to products originating from occupied Western Sahara, particularly agricultural and fisheries products. This agreement will serve as an amendment to the Association Agreement between Morocco and the EU if later adopted by the European Parliament.

By: Mohamed Brahim, June 17,2018.

Morocco continues to plunder the resources of Western Sahara with EU´s Blessing:

The Moroccan authorities have been plundering the natural resources of Western Sahara for many decades with the complicity of several foreign firms and the support of Western powers, such as France and Spain who only run after their own benefits and personal interests. Funny enough, unlike in other cases, No embargo, no boycott, no sanctions, yet used or decreed by the international community against Morocco and companies that violate international law regarding the exploitation of the resources of a country still considered non-self governing territory. According to European justice, the inclusion of territory in the scope of the fisheries agreement "would violate several rules of international law, including the principle of self-determination"

According to Dr. Ghali Zbeir, a Saharawi official and an expert in the natural resources stated that no less than 56 companies of different nationalities and continents have signed contracts with Morocco and are active in various fields of economic activity in the territory of Western Sahara. Still, according to him, there are 9 companies in fishing, 18 in oil and gas exploration, 7 in electricity and renewable energies, 18 in phosphates, 4 in mining exploration, 2 in agriculture and as much in financing and other services.

The ECJ ruling on Western Sahara and its impact:

On 21st December 2016, the highest European court had already ordered that Western Sahara be excluded from the EU-Morocco Free Trade Agreement. The fisheries agreement was not included in this dossier. The court recognizes the fact that the "separate and distinct status" of Western Sahara recognized by the United Nations should be taken into account. This decision, a victory for the people of Western Sahara and their legal representative the Polisario, provoked strong tensions between Brussels and Rabat. They were both forced to renegotiate the agricultural agreement.

These negotiations are still ongoing. Just few days ago, the Polisario Front filed a new appeal against the decision of the Council of the European Union (EU) authorizing the Commission to open negotiations with Morocco to extend the EU-Morocco fisheries agreement to the Sahara Western and its maritime space, announced M'hamed Khadad, member of the Polisario Secretariat.

Replacing consent with fake consultation:

"Consultations with many local representatives of Western Sahara, civil society, and other organizations and bodies have shown broad support for the socio-economic benefits that the proposed tariff preference would bring," the European Commission stresses in a press release published a few days ago. Yet, the hypocrisy continues as the same Commission in its statement says: "These proposals are also concluded without prejudice to the EU's position on Western Sahara, where the EU continues to support the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution", says EU Commission.

Who is Who in Western Sahara?

Nonetheless, Saharawi civil society are opposing these statements are describing the EU Commission's act as a swift move to deny Saharawis their rights in favor of Morocco:  we received an invitation from the European Commission to participate in a meeting to "exchange views" in relation to the free trade agreement concerning agricultural and fisheries products which to be amended after the CJEU ruling on 21 December 2016 based on EU council's mandate. We were initially informed that the meeting was to take place on February 2nd, 2018 at the EU representation in Rabat ¨Says Babit, a founding member of the Al-Ghad Association based in El-Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara,

He Continues,¨ A second invitation followed on February 15th, 2018 where the Commission requested to change the location of the meeting from Rabat to Brussels and highlighting their engagement in open dialogue with the legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, the POLISARIO Front through its EU representation in Brussels¨.

In this same token, Other Saharawi associations joined in and denounced this act of treason and sent a letter to the head of the Moroccan government. The Salam Association for the Protection of the Environment and the Sustainable Development, The Protection of the Maritime Resources, The Environment and Fisheries Association, The Peoples Association and AIPMOD all issued a joint press release today, and which have a copy of, attacking the Moroccan Ministry of the Fisheries which forced their exclusion and marginalization while not fulfilling its promises and playing them around as if they were just puppets and decoys to be used for the benefit of the government to embellish the image of Morocco worldwide.

Saharawis and pro-Saharawis saying: This mere Conspiracy theory at work:

Al-Ghad Association representatives have denied, during meetings it had during this week in Brussels with European parliamentarians and permanent representations of the member countries of the European Union (EU), rights defenders organizations and the Belgian solidarity movement with the Saharawi people, the allegations of the European Commission (EC) on the participation of civil society organizations representing the people of Western Sahara in the consultations it is to circumvent the judgments of the European justice.

Western Sahara Resources Watch, a pro-Saharawi NGO, said it was "surprised" to be included in the list of organizations that refused to take part in the consultations because, as it states, it was "never invited to such a process, but only at an informal meeting ". WSRW have published an article with a list of the so-called NGO and stakeholders who were called to meet with the Commission. Most of these names were included without their consent while some were not even invited nor met with. The Commission called only pro Moroccans and made it look like it consulted all stakeholders including Politicians, MP´s, entrepreneurs, human rights associations and other civil society actors who were invited but not met with. Most of the individuals who went from Dakhla, for example, are part of the inner circle of the minister of Fisheries and have mutual interests. The question to be asked here: Who paid for their trip and all related expenses?

The People of Western Sahara Vs. The Inhabitants of the Sahara:

The Terminology of 'Saharawi people' versus 'population' is misleading: ¨ these concepts are fundamentally different. This is a deeply destructive and unsustainable approach which directly contravenes EU and international law, strengthens and funds Morocco's illegal occupation, and threatens to undermine the UN Political process and the efforts of the United Nations special envoy to Western Sahara¨ says Babit from Al-Ghad Association. Thus, according to data obtained from Saharawi activists, Saharawi benefits from their resources is as follows: 4.95% in the fishing sector, 1,21%in the agriculture sector, and 9% in the phosphate industry sector.

The term population is strictly geographical: it is the whole population of a country, a region or a city. In contrast, the term person is a more legal and philosophical notion. There is also have a second meaning, a more ethnic sense: this is the meaning that is taken into account in Western Sahara where the notion: ¨Saharawi¨brings together all the ethnic Saharawis, whether in Spain, Algeria, Mauritania or elsewhere, together bonding with each other. This ethnic notion of people has also been reclaimed by some in the context of national minorities or peoples who feel they are perceived as minorities around the world. Morocco is playing with words and is trying to mix things up for those who cannot make such a difference. ¨It does not matter how much Morocco is spending in Western Sahara because it is only money spent on settlers and on their own welfare while most Saharawis, excluding the Moroccan-made elite, are excluded from decision making and are impoverished. The Commission ignored many calls and emails from real Saharawi Civil society actors to be invited and met with it¨says Mohamed Sidati, the Polisario representative to the EU.

Questioning the ethics of the EU Commissions when dealing with Western Sahara:

All meetings were conducted either in Rabat or in Brussels while ignoring holding meetings in Western Sahara itself with the people of Western Sahara. The Polisario front was not even included in these negotiations despite the continuous calls to be part of the negotiations as it represents the people of Western Sahara. ¨Interestingly enough, the nature of the questions asked when met with these so-called Saharawis and civil society actors were very simple questions and asked the wrong people as some of them represent or works in sectors not related to the main theme and concentration of the negotiations. Mohamed El Baikam, a Saharawi activist, says during a phone interview. He even joked about it and said that one of the people invited and met with represented a local Couscous Cooperative, which has nothing to do with the fisheries. A similar case is also that of a representative of dairy products Cooperative that has nothing to do with these so-called negotiations as well. Most of these people did not even know how to answer the question when asked by the Commission. Mohamed El Baikam continues¨. The problem is that the Commission id trying to replace the consent of the people of Western Sahara by the consultation of the inhabitants of the Sahara. They are playing a dirty game here! ¨.

Questions to be asked to EU and its bodies:

Many Saharawis are asking these questions: To What extent is the EU Commission respecting the ECJ ruling? When will EU put pressure on Morocco to respect human rights in Western Sahara as part of its deals, signed and ratified in the agreement? Is there any special Committee to monitor and audit the funds directed and allocated to Morocco and Western Sahara? If Saharawis are benefitting from these funds and resources, where does it show, as there is still unemployment, poor infrastructure and deprivation of the basic rights? Where did the money from the previous agreement in 2013 go? Who was behind choosing the NGOs representatives and civil society actors that the Commission claims to have consulted? Does the Commission really have a full picture and data of the Socio-political and economic reality in the ground? How will the Commission guarantee the enforcement of the international law and the protection of the interests of the people of Western Sahara? Why not allocate some of the funds to the Saharawis in the refugee camps who are hardly surviving on international aid?

These are simple questions that Europe is obliged to answer and to look at thoroughly!

A "Dormant" British Company Lehram Capital Investments Ltd has russian roots

2018/06/25

Law enforcement agencies of Great Britain, in cooperation with their colleagues from Spain and France, have initiated the investigation into the activity of the British company Lehram Capital Investments Ltd.

This structure allegedly controlled by notorious Russian "businessmen" Ruslan Rostovtsev and Rustem Magdeev, is suspected of involvement and connection with Russian criminal world, specifically, with the leaders of "Izmaylovo" and "Sevastopol" organised criminal groups. In the context of frayed diplomatic relations, such allegations invariably lead to increased scrutiny. In the case of Lehram it even involves the British registrar — The Companies House of England and Wales — that will conduct its own independent investigation. If the allegations of impropriety are confirmed that would lead to Lehram Capital Investments Ltd being struck off and its directors criminally charged.

Legal costs without support

Yesterday, the "Prime" agency reported that the aforementioned Companies House found that Lehram has violated The Companies Act 2006 in relation to the preparation and reporting of its annual accounts. This is a criminal offense leading to up to two years imprisonment and heavy fines. So at best, Lehram will be fined, at worst — the company will be struck off the register with an initiation of a criminal case against the directors of the company.

Lehram Capital Investments Ltd. has gained notoriety in connection with the Gramoteinskaya coal mine located in the Kemerovo region of the Russian Federation.

It is worth reminding, that on the 15th of October 2013 the public company Evraz, owned by the structures of Roman Abramovich and Alexander Abramov, and traded on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker "EVR", published a press release. It reported the sale of Gramoteinskaya mine (a part of "OUK Yuzhkuzbassugol") to the company Lehram Capital Investments Ltd for the price of 10 000 Russian roubles. Or about $160. At the time of the transaction there was no debt on the balance sheet of the mine, while as of June 30, 2013 the total value of the assets of the Gramoteinskaya mine was $13 million. In 2012, the enterprise's loss before taxation was $19 million. Losses were largely related to the serious accident in the mine and cessation of the production. Later, KPMG estimated the assets at more sobering $8.5 million.

However, in December 2013 it emerged that the new owners, together with the new management under the leadership of one Mr. Igor Rudyuk — a Kazakh citizen — had stopped paying wages. In order to avoid civil unrest administration of the Kemerovo region had to intervene in the situation.

Mr. Aman Tuleyev, who was the head of the region at the time, in his address on the "Russia 1" TV channel openly called the new owners "crooks" who "abandoned the mine with the team". Igor Rudyuk was subsequently detained by law enforcement agencies for violating immigration laws.

The standoff led to the sale of the "Gramoteinskaya" mine. The new acquirer was a well-known Russian industrialist Alexander Shchukin, who had to immediately invest more than 200 million roubles ($3 million) to cover salary arrears and for immediate safety improvements given widespread theft of the mine's property during the preceding 3 months. Further investment to the tune of $50 million dollars has enabled an accident-stricken mine to restart the production and ensure continued employment for over 800 employees and their families. Given that Gramoteinskaya mine is the sole employer of note in the small town of Gramoteino (14 thousand people) the continued operation of the mine has wide-reaching political and socio-economic connotations.

Experienced leader Aman Tuleev was not entirely wrong to call Lehram Capital Investments Ltd "crooks". Two years after the sale, specifically on 13th December 2015, the British newspaper The Guardian published an article which stated that the self-proclaimed "dormant" (a company that is not involved in any business activity) Lehram Capital Investments Ltd estimated the cost of the mine "Gramoteinskaya" at staggering 250 million pounds sterling! The article further proclaimed the intention of Lehram to file a claim in court seeking such compensation from the new owners and their families living in London.

Yet a law suit was only filed in Russia — 12 months after a statute of limitations for such claims has passed. And there was an explanation: Lehram "awakening" conveniently coincided with the aggravation in the relationship between Alexander Shchukin and his former partner Ruslan Rostovtsev, who defrauded Alexander Shchukin of assets worth billions of roubles. Facing multiple law suits and criminal charges in many jurisdictions, Rostovtsev saw an opportunity to use Lehram to his advantage.

Indeed, for the British-Colombian company Lehram Capital Investments (it is controlled by the Colombian "agricultural businessmen", though it is registered in the UK), the sale of coal assets was not crucial — the Colombian "barons" paid only 10,000 roubles which are $160 at today's rate, and they made no investments. Moreover, it has recently been discovered that Gramoteinskaya mine held 23 million roubles in its salary fund, which Lehram withdrew, so not only a lawsuit would be futile, it would be frankly dangerous to directors of Lehram who broke the laws of multiple countries. But Rostovtsev saw the situation differently.

It is known that the meeting between representatives of Lehram and Rostovtsev took place in Madrid — Colombian "businessmen" especially those involved in "agriculture" prefer to present themselves in Europe as Spaniards. Rostovtsev took responsibility for Lehram's legal expenses. Once the agreement was reached, the lawsuit was filed. The interests of Lehram were represented by the law firm Baker McKenzie — Ruslan Rostovtsev paid its bills of more than $0.5 million. To finance expenses like these, Rostovtsev, who found himself in significant financial difficulties, engaged in smuggling of coal from the People's Republic of Donetsk, as was reported in the West by Forbes magazine and by their Russian colleagues. Despite the effort and the risk Baker McKenzie has failed to make the progress Rostovtsev required.

It is at this point in the case of Lehram a name of the Russian businessman Rustem Magdeev hits the spotlight. He became the hero of the series of investigations in the online newspaper "Vek".

Rustem Magdeyev has a dual Russian-Cypriot citizenship, he is associated with prominent representatives of the "Sevastopol" organized criminal organisation from the Republic of Tatarstan and the members of the Izmaylovo organised criminal group, who provide him with support. It turns out that at some point last year Lehram Capital Investments had changed its prominent lawyers Baker McKenzie to somewhat less illustrious Stephenson Harwood. Interestingly, at about the same time Stephenson Harwood began to represent the interests of Rostovtsev and Magdeyev in their numerous legal battles. And this is not a coincidence. Thу change of lawyers was almost immediately followed the news, which astonished the foreign and the Russian press.

On 18th of December 2017 The Financial Times and several other leading media published articles and news stories, which reported that Lehram Capital Investments Ltd. demanded $500 million in compensation, and this time from the Russian Federation. Such an outrageous claim and the supporting media campaign was supported by Magdeyev numerous payment orders in favour of Stephenson Harwood. It didn't come cheap. According to several experts such campaign would cost in excess $1 million, but it still failed spectacularly. On the 16th of April 2018, the Arbitration Court of the Kemerovo Region rejected the claim of the British-Colombian-Russian syndicate.

It is interesting to note that in its media campaign in December Lehram not only gave the Russian Federation an ultimatum to pay $500 million but to do so in three months! Seven long months have passed, but no lawsuit had been filed outside the Russian Federation. Judging by the situation with Lehram in the UK, the ultimatum was a bluff. The British-Colombian company has too many dark parts in its history to seriously expect a "continuation".

Lehram's adventures in London

"Investment Fund" of Lehram Capital Investments Ltd. was registered on November 8, 2011 with a share capital of 100 pounds sterling in the Register of Companies of England and Wales (Company House of England and Wales) under the number 07839142.

The only founder and at the time the CEO of Lehram Capital Investments Ltd. was a Latvian citizen Julia Lopatina, resident in the UK who lived at the following address: 40C Orsett Terrace, London, W2 6AJ, United Kingdom, which at the time of registration was the location of the executive body.

It is suggested that the first steps of Instagram star turned entrepreneur Ms Julia Lopatina, including the money necessary to register the company and to fund its share capital, were financed by a well-known Russian oligarch from the Forbes list, who surely saw the future of British business in a striking 27-year-old woman.

A "Dormant" British Company Lehram Capital Investments Ltd has russian roots. 62581.jpeg

Soon, on December 5, 2011, Ms Lopatina changed her post to the position of secretary, and on December 6, 2011, Igor Rudyk, was appointed company's director, with registered address in Ust-Kamennogorsk, Kazkahstan.

On June 25, 2012, the board of directors of Lehram Capital Investments Ltd. got a serious boost in the form of Igor Gurov — a 25-year-old citizen of the Russian Federation was appointed as the company's director. On September 12, 2013, Rudyuk abandoned the position of the director, and on November 6, 2013 Gurov did the same. The next day, November 7, 2013, Lopatina regained the director's authority. She appointed Rudyuk as the second director of the company. Lopatina's work didn't last long — in a month, on December 7, 2013, she again divested herself of director's authority.

2014 was also remarkable for the series of radical changes in the Lehram management and shareholder structure. For example, it can be seen from the reports that 100% of its shares were suddenly owned not by Lopatina, but by Rudyk, who had run the Gramoteinskaya mine for several months; and on January 21, 2014, the company changed the registered address of Lehram to a more prestigious address in the City of London: Kemp House, 152 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. On April 29, 2014 a citizen of the Russian Federation Evgeniy Ivannikov was appointed as a new director of the company. Rudyuk left the director's post for a short time on May 13, 2014. On March 2, 2015, he came back, and on May 21, 2015, he fired Ivannikov.

On October 10, 2015, 100% of the shares of Lehram Capital Investments were returned to Lopatina, who, apparently, had realised the futility of Kazakh-Russian management, on February 26, 2016 "appointed" Colombian citizen Juan Saavedra as a director of the company. On September 19, 2016, he fired Lopatina from the position of secretary, appointing his brother Eduardo Saavedra to her post.

Later, on October 11, 2016, 100% shares of Lehram Capital Investments Ltd. were passed from Julia Lopatina to the offshore company Hasbrone Overseas Ltd. On November 21, 2016, the position of the secretary was passed from Eduardo Saavedra to another Colombian, Segundo Vargas, and the new company director became the company-shareholder.

This appointment game seems pretty strange taking into account the "dormant" status of the company. Up to 2016, Lehram reports included nominees from Russia, Kazakhstan and Latvia, while the real owners — the Colombian "barons" — did not announce themselves until 2016. Clearly, the lawsuit filed by Lehram and funded by the moneies of Rostovtsev and Magdeev necessitated the abandonment of nominee policy. Indeed, it is a multi-million dollar endeavour and while one may consider Julia Lopatina a million-dollar girl, no one is likely to consider her an expert in coal mining, as quick look at her Instagram would suggest.

A "Dormant" British Company Lehram Capital Investments Ltd has russian roots. 62582.jpeg

Julia's glamorous lifestyle, as well as the clothing company Artjam Ltd registered to her, do not suggest an investor in one of the Kemerovo's most challenging mines, which is what Lopatina was apparently involved in in the beginning of our story.

Perhaps that was one of the reasons for the law enforcement agencies of three countries, including Great Britain, to have placed all the figurants — "crooks" — under the investigation, and, perhaps, in the nearest future the story will be continued.

Meanwhile, Lehram Capital Investments Ltd is already involved in the investigation initiated by The Companies House of England and Wales, and upon its conclusion Lehram will leave the registrar in the "English" way.

Study warns of the need to evaluate the presence of viruses in Wastewater Treatment Plants

Study warns of the need to evaluate the presence of viruses in Wastewater Treatment Plants

A study carried out by a team from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra (FFUC) concluded that the current methods used in Wastewater Treatment Plants (ETAR) are not effective in removing the most resistant viruses.

Analyzes carried out on samples collected at 15 WWTPs from north to south of the country revealed the presence of high amounts of genetic material from some viruses, such as polyomavirus JC and Norovirus.

Polyomavirus JC is a very little known virus, although very common among the human population. However, this virus only causes disease in individuals who have a very compromised immune system, which can happen due to several pathologies. In these patients, the JC virus can cause Multifocal Progressive Leukoencephalopathy (PML), a central nervous system demyelinating disease that can be fatal. The Norovirus group is one of the main responsible for gastroenteritis and can be transmitted through the ingestion of contaminated food or water.

As there is no legislation at national or European level regulating the presence of viruses in treated wastewater, this study focused on detecting and quantifying the existence of the most resistant viruses' with the aim of drawing attention competent authorities and policy makers on the need to include this assessment in WWTP in order to avoid risks to human health. The effluents from WWTPs are introduced into the water resources for reuse, and can be a way of transporting these viruses to the population," says Ana Miguel Matos, study coordinator and professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra.

"We do not intend to cause alarmism, but to produce information that leads to the implementation of new practices for assessing the quality of the water leaving the WWTP to prevent the spread of viruses", reiterates the researcher.

In order to evaluate to what extent the current wastewater treatment methods practiced by the different WWTPs are effective in the destruction of viruses, the analyzes were carried out in untreated sewage (influent harvested at the entrance of the WWTP) and in the respective effluents (at the exit of the WWTP) .

Thus, at the entrance of WWTP, JC virus appeared in 14 of the 15 studied, with concentration levels of 538 thousand virus per liter. After treatment, the JC virus genome remained detectable in 8 WWTPs, albeit at lower concentrations (213,000 viruses per liter). In the case of Noroviruses, their presence (before any treatment) was also detected in 14 WWTPs but in higher concentrations: one million viruses per liter. At the exit, the virus remained in 10 WWTP, in concentrations of 266 thousand virus per liter.

The researchers also verified that the permanence of these viruses at the exit of the WWTP is independent of the treatment methods applied by each of them.

The next phase of the study will be to verify if these two viruses resist an innovative method of wastewater treatment that is being developed by a team of researchers from the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra.
The method in question combines the use of photocatalytic ozone and biofilters with a freshwater clamshell known as Asian clams (Corbicula fluminea) to remove viruses and bacteria from wastewater.

The Sarah Huckabee Sanders scam

2018/06/24

Recently, the Online world was filled with right-wing "outrage" over the fact that Donald Trump's chief propagandist, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, had been asked to leave a small restaurant in Virginia due to the owner's disdain for Huckabee Sanders's often disingenuous defense of Trump's policies.

Much of this outrage mirrored a theme I discussed in a recent Pravda.Report article, I Love Free Speech; I Hate Free Speech (June 5, 2018):  That people will vociferously support speech and/or actions that comport with their beliefs, and just as vociferously condemn speech and/or actions that don't.

As many commentators pointed out, Huckabee Sanders had no compunction about praising a recent Supreme Court decision that allowed a private business to refuse service to a gay couple, and undoubtedly many of those now expressing "outrage" at her so-called "mistreatment" most likely applauded this decision as well.  And how many of these same commentators, through online contributions, raised almost a million dollars for the owners of an Indiana pizzeria after they announced they would not provide catering services for same-sex weddings (How To Get Rich in America, Pravda.Report, April 9, 2015).

But what has been left out of the equation is that people like Trump and Huckabee Sanders, who incessantly holler "fake news" when the facts don't suit their delusions, certainly should know how to create fake news themselves.

Today in America, the media, and millions of its citizens, are outraged by Trump's immigration policy that separates children from their parents.  And, although Trump and his fellow goose-steppers have been largely successful in the past diverting attention from their cruelty and ineptitude by attacking the media, exploiting racism, and pandering to the mindless cultism of many of his supporters, these time-worn antics were ultimately unable to erase the images of crying children being held in cages.

So what better way to shift attention away from the true victims than to become a "victim" yourself?

According to the Washington Post, the restaurant Huckabee Sanders was asked to leave is a "farm to table" style restaurant that seats twenty-six people and "is no bigger than some apartments."  It is roughly two hundred miles from Washington D.C.  Huckabee Sanders, or someone in her party, had apparently made reservations under her husband's name.

The restaurant is located in a small Virginia town with a population of around 7000.  The citizens of this town had voted "overwhelmingly against Trump in a county that had voted overwhelmingly for him."

Also, according to Heavy.Com, the restaurant owner is environmentally conscious, receives vegetables from a farm founded by Mexican immigrants, and has gay employees-everything Trump despises.

So, let's examine this scenario.  First, the Washington D.C area has a plethora of larger restaurants Huckabee Sanders could have gone to, where she would have probably been welcomed; Second, the reservations suggest that Huckabee Sanders's party intended to make the two hundred mile drive and did not just come upon this restaurant by happenstance; Third, the restaurant is located in an oasis of liberalism surrounded by a desert of Trump supporters; Fourth, the political views of its owner, the fact that it is owned locally and not by a corporation, and its small size virtually guaranteed that the presence of Huckabee Sanders would cause consternation; Fifth, other slime that works for Trump, like Stephen Miller and Kirstjen Nielsen, have recently been heckled at restaurants; Sixth, Trump has already shown, through the sycophantic antics of Mike Pence, that he is willing to send his lackeys to places, just so they can make dramatic, highly visible, exits.

Add them up and what do you get?-the old diversionary tactic of criminals portraying themselves as victims to divert attention from their crimes.  This is reinforced by the fact that Huckabee Sanders did not simply state she was asked to leave a restaurant:  She made a special point of both naming the restaurant and giving its location, and, in doing so, may have, according to a former director of the Office of Government Ethics, violated ethics laws by using her official White House account to disseminate this information.

There is little doubt that Sarah Huckabee Sanders is one of the most despicable human beings to ever walk the face of the earth, and whatever shreds of a soul she once had have long since evaporated.  She is not a victim.  She is, like the tyrant she serves, a cold, calculating, dissembling, mendacious, hypocritical, sociopathic fascist.

And she knows that, in the cult of Trump, you can fool some of the people all of the time.

Yulin, China: Where dogs are tortured to death and eaten

Yulin, China: Where dogs are tortured to death and eaten

Any society which permits shocking acts of cruelty to animals is one without morals, without values, one of sub-human parasites. Reader discretion advised.

I apologize to the many Chinese citizens fighting for animal rights and I apologize to the growing number of Chinese speaking out against this outrage. Hoping that more and more media outlets will take this story up, I am about to fire with both barrels. Reader discretion advised, this is very disturbing to write and probably more so to read.

In most countries of the world and in most balanced homes, dogs are loved as pets or even as members of the family. They are looked after, they are cared for, they are fed food they like, they are treated when they are sick, they have exercise, they have their own space, they are respected, they are placed in kennels as a last resort but are looked after, they are cuddled, they are kissed, they are loved.

Not in Yulin, China. They are kidnapped from their homes, thrown into a cage and carted off to the dog meat festival, where they are skinned alive, boiled alive, or simply hacked to death with a meat cleaver. Their terrified eyes show as much confusion as horror because just an hour ago they were curled up on the sofa sleeping soundly and feeling safe.

"Give me that one, a leg". Chop! The animal is left screaming in pain and shaking in fear, bleeding to death as "the leg" is skinned and tossed into a pan to be then mixed with vegetables and consumed by the sub-human piece of excrement grinning all over his face in anticipation of his meal.

"That one, the little one, whole!" The little dog which spent three happy years with his loving family is skinned alive and thrown into a cauldron of boiling water, still alive, its last final yelp punctuating the surreal movie developing around it. But this is no movie, it is Yulin, the Chinese dog-meat festival.

In 2017 the Chinese authorities made cynical noises about clamping down on the festival but in the end it went ahead. They made these noises because of international pressure to stop this demonstration of traditional Chinese values, the reason for allowing it to go ahead, yet it only started in 2009. It takes place during the hottest period of the year, June 21 to 30, the idea being that eating dog meat at this time cleanses the body and makes men more potent.

This year, the festival is taking place right now as you read these lines despite the millions of protests from around the world. Translation: the authorities of the People's Republic of China could not care less and so this outrage will go ahead year after year, tens of thousands of dogs will be butchered each and every year and nobody will do anything to stop it.

Minny is a fluffy little mongrel, much loved by her human family and a special friend to their autistic son, who lives for his dog. Right now she is hanging on a hook, just alive still, with a slit from her anus to her throat, her intestines hanging out, as a Chinese festival-goes eyes her up and asks whether he can have her grilled, but still alive to make the meat tastier.

So much for the anti-Yulin campaign 2018, which had the same fete and as much success as the anti-Yulin campaign 2017, and the previous eight years.

Now as Yulin 2018 runs, and we can feel the nightmare these animals are suffering right now, let us do something to make this the very last act of butchery in this gateway to Hell, Yulin. What are your local politicians doing to stop this? Nothing? De-select them. What is your representative doing to stop this in Congress or Parliament? Nothing? De-select him/her. Write to the local and national media demanding action from representatives, petition your Prime Minister to pronounce him/herself on the issue, petition your President. Boycott Chinese products (Barcode reference 690 - 695 GS1 China). Petition the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. Search for how to contact Chinese officials/the Presidency. Use celebrities to champion the cause. Do not stop, start now and continue every month. Losing steam and giving up is condemning thousands more dogs to this hideous end. Boycott businesses doing deals with China. Boycott Chinese restaurants and shops. Let them know why. Make it hurt, make it happen (within the law).

Ro was five years old. He rescued his human sister, the five-year-old girl he grew up with, when she almost drowned in a lake at the age of three. You can see Ro in the picture below. He was skinned and deep-fried alive. Welcome to Yulin, China.

By any international common values or morals, the Yulin dogmeat festival is barbaric, unacceptable and does not run in tandem with our times or with basic human values. Let 2018 be the last year of this outrage and let us all spend this entire year working together to make this happen.

It is monstrosities like this that bring us all together, men and women, Christians, Moslems and Jews, black and white, brown and yellow, Africans, Latin Americans, Eskimos, Americans, Indians... and we all collectively express our disgust at the People's Republic of China for allowing this cancer to infect their society, and worse, to allow this to continue despite the protests. With Yulin, the People's Republic of China is NOT part of our international community.

Yulin, China: Where dogs are tortured to death and eaten. 62570.jpeg

Imagine some Chinese butcher stole your dog from your home then burnt it with a blow torch until it was so defeated and terrified that it just gave up, stopped twitching and accepted its fate with a sullen, lost and beaten look in its eyes as its happy life flashed past it.´Well that is happening right now and has been going on for a decade. STOP YULIN!

Can the World Cup change the world?

2018/06/20

Even though Russia is not a football-mad country, the Russians need the World Cup for many reasons. The most prestigious and the largest sports tournament in the world will make millions of people take a different look at Russia, writer and political scientist Akelsei Mukhin believes.

"Many in Russia were very apprehensive of the World Cup, but it turns out that it's going very well, even though Russia is not a great football nation. Some say that the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the most expensive in history. Will the World Cup change what the world says about Russia these days?"

"We may go back to the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Many were saying that Russia was spending too much on those Games, that many sports facilities would be abandoned. Yet, time put everything in its place. The 2014 Winter Olympic Games made Sochi become a totally new city. It will help us grow new generations of athletes. This is a good investment in our future, in our people and infrastructure. One needs to invest a lot in infrastructure to be able to hold the World Cup. This is a major event that attracts a lot of tourists. The presentation of Russia in foreign media has been utterly negative recently. A distorted image of Russia was created - an evil and corrupt country. However, many foreign tourists who come to Russia for the games are stunned with what they can see here. This enormous exposure that the World Cup brings will play into our hands, because it will be harder for foreign media to lie about Russia afterwards.

"The most recent "horror story" was the so-called Skripal case. Indeed, most of the British people are sure that it was the Russians who made that all happen. However, they are also concerned about the actions of the British authorities. The story had such a strong and aggressive start and a very vague ending. It appears that the British authorities have lashed themselves. British people want to know how such a thing could happen in their country, where, as it turns out, Russian special services feel at home. In the long run, the Skripal scandal has left a huge stain on the reputation of the British authorities and special services in the first place. In fact, there is no such case as the Skripal case. It has fallen apart. Sergei and Yulia Skripal are alive, which suggests that there was no nerve agent used."

USA tramples on human rights to protect Israel

2018/06/20

The world shuddered when the United States announced its decision to pull out from the UN Human Rights Council. According to Nikki Haley, the US Ambassador to the United Nations,  "our commitment does not allow us to remain a part of a hypocritical and self-serving organization that makes a mockery of human rights."

She criticized the UN Human Rights Council for "its chronic bias against Israel" and bluntly stated that the council, the purpose of which is to defend human rights, has such human rights abusers such as China, Cuba, Venezuela and the Democratic Republic of Congo. "The world's most inhumane regimes continue to escape scrutiny and the council continues politicising and scapegoating of countries with positive human rights records in an attempt to distract from the abusers in their ranks," she also said adding that the USA could leave 17 months ago, when the US administration changed.

Haley said that the USA would continue supporting human rights outside the organisation and would consider joining it back when required reforms take place.

It is worthy of note that the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva passed a resolution in May of this year calling for international investigation into the actions of the Israeli military against participants in mass protests in Gaza that began on March 30, 2018.

According to Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, the UN model in the field of human rights plays a very important role in the promotion and protection of human rights throughout the world.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zayed Ra'ad al Hussein, was also disappointed with the latest move of the United States. "Disappointing if not really surprising news. Given the human rights situation in the modern world, the United States should have stepped up its efforts rather than leave," he said.

EU officials believe that USA's pull out from the UN Human Rights Council may undermine the role of the USA as a campion of international democracy.

Contributors to the "Vneshpol" ("Foreign Policy") Telegram channel believe that the UN Human Rights Council was too much preoccupied with the criticism of Israel. "The HRC has been ruthlessly criticizing Israel all the time. Among its members, there were such "prominent human rights defenders" as like Cuba, Saudi Arabia , Pakistan, Azerbaijan and China. It came to a point when even UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan urged the HRC to think about some other problems. George W. Bush refused to join the HRC, but Obama accepted membership hoping to reform the council from within. The acceptance of the Democratic Republic of the Congo as a HRC member became the last straw. Therefore, if the USA's pullout from the HRC will lead to its reform, one may only welcome this move."

From where I stand: "We need men who will stand up for the rights of women and girls"

From where I stand: "We need men who will stand up for the rights of women and girls"

E. Wilkins Nah is one of 15 public prosecutors at the frontlines of the fight against sexual and gender-based violence in post-conflict Liberia. By combining his legal experience with knowledge on survivor-centred response, he is working to end impunity and ensure justice for survivors.

When I took over as County Attorney (Prosecutor) in Bong County, I had no understanding of how to deal with cases of rape or other cases on violence against women because I had never been trained in this area.

I only knew how to deal with the legal aspects of a case, and didn't consider the special needs of a survivor, like medical and psycho-social support or confidentiality. It was only after I received the training sessions through UN Women that I became aware of the ethical principles of dealing with cases of violence against women. Today, when I receive these cases, my first concern is to ensure a proper referral pathway for the survivor-first, does she have access to a health facility, is she receiving proper service at the police station, does she have a psychosocial counselor, and finally, the legal proceedings in the court.

From my experience of prosecuting sexual and gender-based violence cases, the root cause of this violence is that culturally, women are considered as (inferior) subjects under men's authority. The level of awareness of the rights of women and girls is very low, especially in rural communities.

I think when someone is not directly involved in dealing with these cases, they tend to underestimate the magnitude of the problem. Violence against women and girls, especially rape is a problem that is destroying the social fabric. When you see that most survivors are children, it is mind-boggling.

There is need for more work to curb this situation. We must all work together because tomorrow it could hit close to home. No one is safe.

We need a mass movement led by men in raising awareness of the effects of these acts of violence. We need men who will stand up for the rights of women and girls."

Wilkins Nah, 43, is among nearly 173 individuals in central Liberia, including police officers, prosecutors, health and social workers, who have been trained in the provision of rapid and coordinated medical, counselling and prosecutorial services for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence through the Joint Programme on Sexual Gender-based Violence and Harmful Traditional Practices. The programme is being implemented in collaboration with UN Women, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNDP, UNHCR and a number of Liberian ministries, and funded by the Government of Sweden. Through his work, Nah is contributing towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 on gender equality and its target on ending violence against women, as well as SDG 16, which promotes peace and justice.

Russia improves Uran-9 combat robotic machine

2018/06/20

Russia continues to improve its combat robot Uran-9. The robot that weighs ten tons was developed to storm various objects and fortified areas.

Russia tests world's first kamikaze robot

After the expert analysis of the work of the machine during Syrian operations, Russian specialists decided to improve a number of parameters, such as control, mobility, firepower, surveillance and intelligence functions. For the time being, the robot can neither shoot nor move.

The Uran-9 can "see" for a distance of 2 kilometres, which is not enough. Another nuance is the control of the machine. To be able to control the robotic machine remotely, one has to stay in the zone of visibility - this peculiarity distinguishes ground drones from unmanned aerial vehicles. To control an UAV, one can use satellite communication, which means that the operator can stay a hundred kilometres away. On the ground, however, there are many obstacles, such as buildings, to establish uninterrupted connection between the operator and the machine.

Therefore, the machine will be useful most on flat surfaces, where the connection is of high quality.

It is worthy of note that Uran-9 is equipped with a 30-millimeter gun, a large-caliber machine gun, anti-tank missiles and anti-aircraft missile system (Igla).

Kremlin declassifies Kim Jong-un's letter to Putin

2018/06/20

DPRK leader Kim Jong-un wrote a letter to President Putin. In the letter, Kim wrote about productive cooperation at the highest state level, Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov said.

According to him, Kim Jong-un did not write anything about arranging a possible meeting with President Putin. The news about Kim Jong-un's letter to Putin was made public on June 14, when Putin had a meeting with chairman of the supreme legislative and executive body of the DPRK Kim Yong Nam.

Putin invited Kim Jong-un to come for the Eastern Economic Forum, which is to take place this autumn, although the Russian president said that he would be glad to see the DPRK leader in Russia any time.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, when on an official visit to North Korea, invited Kim Jong-un to come to Moscow, and the leader of the DPRK said that he would like to talk to Vladimir Putin in person.

Pentagon to deliver F-35 fighter bombers to Turkey bypassing Congress approval

2018/06/20

The Pentagon said that the US will supply F-35 fighter bombers to Turkey despite the pressure from the US Congress.

American F-35 lost out to Su-35

According to Pentagon spokesman Mike Andrews, the aircraft will be delivered on June 21, in Fort Worth, Texas. Afterwards, the fighter bombers will be moved to an air base in Arizona, where Turkish pilots and technicians have already arrived for training.

Earlier, the US Senate adopted a draft defense budget, which provides for the termination of Turkey's participation in the production of the F-35 because of Ankara's plans to acquire S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems from Russia.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim earlier said that Turkey would find an alternative if the US was going to exclude Turkey from the F-35 production program. Yildirim noted that such actions of Washington come contrary to the spirit of strategic partnership.

Ukrainian Fleet is rotting away

2018/06/20

Ukrainian warships are rotting away. An article posted on the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper  said that Kiev forgot about its fleet as soon as the Crimea voted to reunite with Russia.

The Hetman Sagaidachnyi frigate has become the symbol of the dying Ukrainian navy. The ship can  now travel only with the help of oars, the article said. Another "dead" ship is the Yuri Olefirenko frigate: it seems that she can fall apart and crumble any moment.

To make matters worse, Ukrainian marines are not marines anymore. They have turned into ground troops, as nearly all of the Ukrainian coast guard was integrated into the 36th Nikolaev Brigade.

Reference: Ukrainian naval forces consist of five branches: surface forces, submarine forces, Navy aviation, coastal rocket-artillery and naval infantry. The Navy numbers 6,500 people. In 2007 and prior to the 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea 15,470 people served the Ukrainian Navy.

The headquarters of the Ukrainian Naval Forces was, until the 2014 Crimean crisis, situated at Sevastopol in Crimea. The Naval Forces of Ukraine were highly affected by the Crimea Crisis as majority of their units were stationed there. Ships that did not escape or were not deployed at the time lowered their flags and were interned. Russia began a process of returning the vessels but stopped, citing inability of Ukraine to retake possession and continued violence against Russians in the Donbass. The ships that were returned were the older models of the fleet that were deemed obsolete. For example, Russia chose not to return the corvettes Ternopil and Lutsk, both of which are some of the newest ships of the Ukrainian fleet. However, none of the Ukrainian naval units retained were absorbed into the Russian Navy.

Russia introduces additional duties on imports of US goods

2018/06/19

The Russian government has decided to introduce "balancing measures" for goods imported from the United States. Russia will impose additional import duties on a number of goods that have an alternative on the Russian market, Maxim Oreshkin, the Minister of Economic Development said.

"As long as the United States continues applying protective measures in the form of additional import duties on steel and aluminum and refuses to compensate losses to Russia, the Russian Federation will use its WTO right and introduce balancing measures against imports from the United States," said the minister.

Additional duties are to be introduced "in the near future," the minister said. "They will be applied only to the products that have alternatives on the Russian market and will not show a negative influence on macroeconomic indicators," Oreshkin said.

The minister did not specify which products would be affected. "The final list will be formed in the near future - it will take several more days," the official said.

Russia's intention to respond to the recent move of the US administration about the imposition of duties on steel and aluminum was announced at the end of May. The US justified its decision with the need to defend the "national security" as steel and aluminium imports are vital for the defense industry. Thus, the Trump administration did not use the Agreement on Special Protective Measures which suggests negotiations with trade partners before the introduction of such measures.

Russia asked the WTO to talk to the United States about the new fees, since the Americans should have guaranteed compensatory measures as well. For example, the US could lower tariffs on imports of some other goods. However, the United States failed to offer Russia adequate compensation for its defensive measures.

According to experts' estimates, US duties on steel and aluminum (25 and 10% respectively) affect exports of Russian steel in the amount of $1.51 billion a year and aluminum - $ 1.65 billion (totaling $ 3.158 billion). The duty that the Americans could collect from these Russian supplies would be $ 537.6 million.

Colombian singer Maluma robbed in Moscow

2018/06/19

Colombian singer Juan Luis Londoño, also known as Maluma, was robbed during his stay at Moscow's Four Seasons Hotel. The stolen items were evaluated at over 50 million rubles ($781,250), a source at the Interior Ministry said.

The list of stolen items includes such luxury items as a Louis Vuitton bag, 11 expensive Rolex and Hublot watches worth from $3,000 to $130,000, Cartier jewelry made of yellow, white and rose gold - bracelets, earrings, rings. Perpetrators also stole more than ten pairs of glasses, including some encrusted with diamonds and pearls (worth $8,000), and other valuable items.

It is believed that the items were stolen while the singer was absent from his hotel room. It was said that the intruder entered the room using a duplicate of the electronic key, which he obtained having introduced himself as a guest of the famous singer. The police are searching for the perpetrator.

Maluma came to Russia for World Cup games. On June 19, he went to the city of Saransk to support Colombia during the match against Japan.

North Korea can never trust the USA

2018/06/19

by David William Pear

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (i.e. North Korea) cannot trust the United States of America.  The US does not keep its promises, honor its treaties and obey international laws.  This is not opinion; it is the history of the US, beginning with the many broken promises and treaties with the Native Americans.

The US has broken promises and treaties in every corner of the globe.  The US ignores the UN Charter, which is a treaty. It flouts international law, which is based on treaties.  The US habitually starts asymmetrical wars, which is aggression and the worst of all war crimes.  It destroys nations, leaving millions of people dead, dying, and in misery.

Libya was once a prosperous nation.  Muammar Gaddafi was an eccentric dictator, but he had a love for Libya and its people.  Under Gaddafi the people enjoyed a high standard of living, economic freedom, and gender equality.  Education and medical care were free.  Having a home and food was considered a human right.  Libya's oil wealth benefited the people.

Gaddafi was attacked and vilified by the US for decades.  After the attacks on the US of September 11, 2001 Gaddafi cooperated with the US in the War on Terror.  That is not to say that the War on Terror was a good thing, but Gaddafi was being US friendly.  In further efforts to establish friendly relations with the US, Gaddafi denuclearized in 2003.  President George W. Bush praised Libya for denuclearizing and suggested Libya as a model for North Korea.  In 2011 President Obama wantonly destroyed Libya and conspired in Gaddafi's assassination.  Obama's Secretary of State gloated afterwards "we came, we saw, he died...ha,ha,ha".

Iraq did not have a nuclear weapons program since the early 1990's.  After the First Gulf War in 1991, Saddam Hussein cooperated with the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors right up until the US invasion in 2003.  The weapons inspectors advised against the invasion and recommended that the inspections be continued.  President George W. Bush invaded anyway based on known lies that Saddam Hussein had a nuclear weapons program.  After the invasion and destruction of Iraq, 1625 weapons inspectors spent the next 2 years searching Iraq and found no weapons of mass destruction.

The US continues to accuse Iran of having a nuclear weapons program even though the IAEA certifies that it doesn't, and all 16 US intelligence agencies have said that Iran has not had an active nuclear weapons program since 2003.  Facts do not matter to the US.  It creates its own reality.  Based on its own unreality, the US can invent any reason it wants to impose sanctions and invade asymmetrical countries.

Iraq denuclearized, Libya denuclearized and Iran denuclearized.  The US invaded Iraq based on the unreality of the existence of nuclear weapons.  Libya was invaded based on the invented unreality that the invasion was for human rights.  The US has imposed sanctions on Venezuela because it does not consider it "democratic enough".  The US has imposed sanction against Russia because of its alleged invasion of Ukraine, after a US instigated putsch.

If North Korea completely denuclearizes and the US removes all economic sanctions, there is no way to guarantee that some future US president won't accuse North Korea of secretly harboring a nuclear program.  Or the US can invent a false flag event or use a "red-herring" to impose economic sanctions.  A red-herring is an issue that distracts from the real issue.

Economic sanctions are financial weapons of mass destruction that kill hundreds of thousands of people.  The US can always find a red-herring excuse for imposing sanctions, as it has with Venezuela.  With Venezuela the real issue is not democracy.  Venezuela has regular elections, while the USA backs many dictators and absolute monarchs all over the world.  The real issue is that Venezuela nationalized its oil wealth to benefit its own people, costing Exxon and other US oil corporations billions of dollars in profits.

Human rights in North Korea is a red-herring, which the US propaganda mills keep grinding out.  North Korean defectors are paid a reward up to $860,000 depending on their intelligence and propaganda value.  Tales of North Korean human rights abuses are not based on facts, but are rumors based on rumors and propaganda.  The US does not care about human rights.  The only thing the US foreign policy cares about is its empire and taking care of US corporate interests around the world.  Otherwise the US would do something about Saudi Arabia's human rights abuses.

Saudi Arabia is an absolute monarchy and the most brutal regime in the world.  The US is an accomplice to Saudi Arabia's genocidal bombing and blockade of Yemen, which is starving millions of civilians.  Saudi Arabia beheads or crucifies over 100 prisoners every year.  One never hears a peep out of the US State Department about human rights in Saudi Arabia.

The US never squawks about human rights in Columbia, Egypt, Honduras, Israel, Rwanda, Turkey, Ukraine, or its own atrocious human rights record.  The US has 5% of the world's population and 25% of the world's prisoners; yet it constantly harps about North Korea allegedly having a "gulag of 200,000 political prisoners".

The US has made a political issue of the tragic death of Otto Warmbier, yet the Hamilton County, Ohio coroner reportsays it found no evidence that he was tortured while a prisoner in North Korea.  The US is using his death for propaganda, and not because it cares about an individual life.

The US has killed millions of civilians in its illegal wars of aggression, bombed thousands of hospitals, schools and civilian infrastructures over the past 70 years.  The US has black sites where it tortures victims that it has abducted and imprisoned secretly and illegally.  The US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Torture Report is evidence that the US has tortured to death prisoners in black sites and at Guantanamo Bay detention camp.

Between 1948 and 1987 South Korea was ruled by US puppet dictators, such as Syngman Rhee and Park Chung-Hee.  They killed, tortured, and imprisoned without trial hundreds of thousands of South Koreans they considered dissidents.  South Korea still enforces it repressive National Security Act, which is a violation of human rights.  The law criminalizes political views it considers unpatriotic.  Peace activists risk being thrown in prison.  It is a crime in South Korea to association with anyone even suspected of being a communist or sympathetic to North Korea.  South Korea has thousands of political prisoners under the National Security Act.

North Korea's missiles are another red herring issue.  It is not against international law for a country to have missiles, even intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM).  Every country has the right to have missiles for self-defense, launch satellites and explore outer space.  Actually it is not against any international law for a country who is not a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to have nuclear weapons.  North Korea withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 2003, which it had every legal right to do.

North Korea has missiles and nuclear weapons because the US has been threatening it with invasion and nuclear weapons since 1953.  North Korea is a poor country, and it is economically less costly for self-defense to have nuclear weapons and missiles than to maintaining a modern air force and keep up the conventional arms race with South Korea.

The threat of war in Korea has its roots in Washington and not in Pyongyang.  It is the USA that is the aggressor.  The US is a savagely violent and aggressive nation with the ambition of an empire that rules the world.  It demands that other nations submit to its will.  The US does not hesitate to use overwhelming violence against small nations to enforce its hegemony.  It will punish them until they submit or until they are so utterly destroyed that they are an example to other countries that even think about disobeying US dictates.  During the Korean War the US killed 3 million Koreans.  The US killed another 5 million South East Asians during the Vietnam War.  Millions have been killed in the War on Terror.  Civilians are the main victims.

The power of the US is so enormous that if it were not so tragic it would be laughable when the US claims that it is being threatened by North Korea.  North Korea is a nation of 25 million peasants, with a Gross Domestic Product of approximately $20 billion, and a military budget of $6 billion.  It is not a threat to the national security of the US, with its high-tech military and a budget that exceeds $1 trillion dollars per year.

A war with the U.S. would be madness.  Kim Jong-un and his government are not insane, but the many US war mongers and war criminals such as John Bolton are.  The US has a long history of war madness, most recently in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Ukraine.

It is nuclear madness for the US to move NATO to Russia's border.  In the US instigated putsch in Ukraine, the Obama administration admitted that it was willing to risk a nuclear war with Russia.  The Pentagon insanely plans for limited nuclear wars and winnable nuclear wars.  The US has an insane first strike policy, which means that other nuclear powered adversaries have to keep their nuclear arsenal on a hair-trigger alert.  The risks of a nuclear accident are enormous.  The US has pushed the doomsday clock to 2 minutes until Armageddon.

North Korea is not paranoid to fear the US and prepare its defenses accordingly.  North Korea is well aware of the US's use of total warfare against its adversaries.  Total warfare means that nobody including the enemy's civilian population is off limits, and that nothing, including civilian infrastructure is exempt from destruction.  Total warfare also means that international laws, treaties and the norms of civilized warfare do not restrain the US.  North Korea was a victim of US total warfare in the 1950's.  It wants to avoid a repeat of that war by having a credible deterrent for self-defense.

Most Americans are unaware of the war crimes that the US committed during the Korean War, but almost every Korean knows, in both the North and the South.  On rare occasions a mainstream media outlet such as The Washington Post will have an article such as "The U.S. War Crime North Korea won't Forget".  More often the alternative media is the best source of historical truth.

The US bombed Korea with 635,000 tons of high explosive.  The US perfected napalm during the Korean War and dropped 32,500 tons of it on Korea.  When the US eventually ran out of targets it bombed North Korea's irrigation dams, which flooded croplands causing mass starvation of civilians.

uring the Korean War General Douglas MacArthur wanted to use 30 nukes on North Korea and China.  President Truman fired him, but not because MacArthur wanted to use nukes.  Truman wanted a "responsible" general in charge of nuking North Korea and China.  Truman preauthorized MacArthur's replacement, General Matthew Ridgeway, to use nuclear bombs at his discretion.  Ridgeway avoided World War Three by not using them, although Truman had sent him nuclear bombs to Okinawa for that purpose.

It was Truman that used atomic bombs on Japan for the sole reason of demonstrating US power to Joseph Stalin.  Truman divided Korea in 1945 so that the US could establish a colony in the South.  Truman intervened in the Korean Civil War before the United Nations authorized it, and he publicly threatened to use the atomic bomb in the Korean War.  Truman started the Cold War with his 1947 Truman Doctrine, which would later nearly result in the destruction of the planet in a nuclear holocaust.

Fast forward to the 1990's.  The Soviet Union collapses and there is a pause in the Cold War.  North Korea has lost Russia as its most important sources of foreign aid and one of its major markets for exports.  Between 1994 and 1998 North Korea is hit with a series of draughts and floods.  The combinations of crop failures and the loss of Russian aid created famines and starvation in North Korea.  The US propaganda accuses North Korea of starving its people "in order to stay in power", while the US is imposing economic sanctions that causes more starvation.  US intelligence agencies predicted that North Korea would soon collapse because of the sanctions.  But the US had an immediate concern with North Korea's nuclear program.

The Clinton administration had a very tense confrontation with North Korea in 1994 over North Korea's nuclear program, much like the "fire and fury" of 2017.  The US accused North Korea of working on nuclear weapons.  North Korea has to import almost all of its oil and claimed that it was developing nuclear power for electricity.  North Korea has a legal right to nuclear reactors just as Japan, South Korea and every other country have.  War was averted when North Korea and the Clinton administration negotiated an agreement called the Agreed Framework.

Under the Agreed Framework North Korea agreed not to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, open itself to extensive IAEA inspection and to freeze its nuclear program.  In return the Clinton administration promised to compensate North Korea with the delivery of oil for electric generation and the construction of two light water nuclear reactors, which produce electricity but not weapons grade plutonium.  The US also agreed to the suspension of military exercises, and the normalization of diplomatic relations.  If the Agreed Framework sounds familiar, it should.  It is now where we are heading after the Kim Jong-un and Trump summit in Singapore.

What went wrong with the Agreed Framework?  First, Clinton came under heavy criticism by Republicans and hardliners.  They accused him of appeasement and caving in to blackmail.  Clinton responded that the US would never have to deliver on its promises, because North Korea was on the verge of an economic disintegration of its regime.  The US dragged its feet on the delivery of oil to North Korea and delayed the construction of the promised light water reactors.

Second, the US Congress refused to fund the US obligations under the Agreed Framework.  Congress also refused to lift the economic sanctions against North Korea.  North Korea responded that it would withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and resume its nuclear program if the US did not fulfill its obligation.  Clinton could not keep his promise even if he wanted to, just as Trump may not be able to keep any of his promises to North Korea.

The final breakdown of the Agreed Framework came in 2002 when President George W. Bush declared that North Korea was an Axis of Evil.  He accused North Korea of secretly working on a nuclear bomb in violation of the Agreed Framework and stopped the delivery of oil and the construction of the two light water nuclear reactors.  In response North Korea withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and began working on its nuclear program, which it had every right to do under international law.

The US has been threatening the Democratic People's Republic of Korea with nuclear weapons, conventional weapons and financial weapons of mass destruction since 1953.  It is a violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty for a nuclear power country to threaten a non-nuclear power country.   North Korea had a legal right to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty because of US threats.  North Korea developed nuclear weapons and ICBM's for self-defense against the US and its colony South Korea.  North Korea is not in violation of international law by having nuclear weapons and missiles.

The US has threatened North Korea with "fire and furry" if it does not denuclearize.  To avoid an attack by the US, North Korea offered to negotiate its denuclearization in return for promises by the US of non-aggression.

North Korea can never trust promises of the US. What one president agrees to another can take away, just as Trump violated Obama's Iran Nuclear Deal and Bush reneged on the Agreed Framework of 1994. Trump also reversed Obama's opening with Cuba.

The US has a long history of breaking treaties and violating international law. The US invaded Afghanistan with flimsy evidence that Afghanistan was harboring terrorists that were responsible for the attacks on the US of September 11, 2001.
