Thalys Amsterdam-Paris train evacuated after armed man locks himself in toilet

2015/09/18

The Amsterdam-Paris Thalys train has been stopped and evacuated, after an armed man locked himself in the toilet. Police are now trying to negotiate with him.

According to a witness, the man who jumped on the train “had a bomb.” The man then locked himself in the restroom, the Daily Star reported. The train had to be stopped and evacuated in Rotterdam, and part of the local train station was likewise evacuated.

A Thalys train was involved in an incident in August when a gunman opened fire on board. A 26-year-old Moroccan was heavily armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and nine cartridges, an automatic Luger pistol and a knife. The potential massacre on the train, en route to Paris from Amsterdam, was prevented by three Americans, a Briton and a Frenchman who were in the car. Two people were injured before they managed to subdue the attacker.
