Ivanov: Putin is unlikely to announce his standing for another presidential term this year

2015/06/21

MOSCOW, June 21. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin is unlikely to announce his standing for another presidential term in the 2018 presidential elections this year, Kremlin administration chief Sergei Ivanov said in an interview with the Financial Times newspaper published on Sunday.

"I think, knowing Vladimir Vladimirovich well enough, that if he stands again, he will not announce that this year," he said. "Why would he?"

"There are others, like [opposition Yabloko party leader Grigory] Yavlinsky has already announced that he will run, and maybe there will be more. But in my opinion, this is a false start, to be honest," Ivanov said.

The Kremlin administration chief reminded that under the Russian constitution, Putin had the right to run for another term as Russian president in the 2018 elections.
