Entire Russian Air Force Participates in Civil Defense Drills: Emergencies Ministry

MOSCOW, October 7 (RIA Novosti) - The entire Russian Air Force is taking part in the All-Russian Civil Defense Drill, Emergencies Ministry spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky said Tuesday.


"The air forces from Sakhalin to Kaliningrad are practicing emergency response," Drobyshevsky said, specifying that the drill includes aerial engineer, nuclear, chemical and biological reconnaissance.


The drill also focuses on responding to fire-related emergencies, aerial medical evacuation, as well as oil spill cleanup and earthquake relief operations.


The drill started on October 4 and will last till October 8, involving more than 300,000 personnel and 10,000 pieces of equipment, the Emergencies Ministry said.


All Russian regions are participating in the drill, including Crimea and Sevastopol. Each region has its own scenario of simulated emergencies, ranging from aircraft crashes and floods to earthquakes and chemical disasters.


The All-Russian Civil Defense Drill involves federal executive bodies, executive bodies of Russia's federal subjects and local governments. The drill is coordinated and controlled by the National Crisis Management Center.
