A couple more widescreen shots of two Russian submarines being transported thru the Northern way from one part of Russia to another. Northern way is when the ships go thru the Northern Arctic ocean when its free of ice. This way the journey is almost two and a half times shorter than if they go thru the traditional way starting in St. Petersburg then Baltics – Middeterean – Red Sea – Indian Ocean – South-East Asian – Japan – and then finally Vladivostok. This long way is more than 23,000 long and was traditionally used if the ships from Western part of Russia wanted to reach Far Eastern part of the country. In the summer they have an alternative and can go thru the Northern way which is around 10,000 km long. Also with the longer way ships travel thru half the world, when the Northern way all the time ships move just along the coast of Russia. So the submarines went the short way. And you can click for large pictures.
