MOSCOW, August 10 (RIA Novosti) – Russian and Chinese rescue services are planning to sign a memorandum to enhance cooperation during a meeting between Russia’s Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov and Chinese Civil Affairs Minister Li Liguo in Beijing, Russia’s Emergencies Ministry reported Sunday.
“A bilateral meeting between Russia’s Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov and Chinese Civil Affairs Minister Li Liguo, during which the two are expected to sign a memorandum to enhance cooperation between the rescue services of the two countries, will be an especially important event,” the statement said.
A delegation of the Russian Emergencies Ministry headed by Puchkov is due to visit China on August 10-12. The key events will be held in Beijing. According to the Russian ministry, the aim of the visit is participation in the 8th APEC Senior Disaster Management Officials Forum.
The theme of the forum this year is “strengthening technology in disaster prevention and mitigation.” Delegations are expected to deliver plenary papers, share experience and elaborate joint recommendations during three scheduled sessions.
Minister Puchkov is also expected to meet Chinese Minister of Water Resources Chen Lei.
