LONDON, July 9. /TASS/. Russia's tennis star Maria Sharapova on Thursday lost to Serena Williams 2-6, 4-6 in the Wimbledon semifinals.
Williams who defeated Sharapova for the 17th time in a row is set to grab her 20th Grand Slam title if she beats Spain's Garbine Muguruza in the finals on Saturday.
Shamil Tarpishchev, the head of the Russian Tennis Federation, told TASS that Sharapova had no chances to defeat Williams.
"Serena was playing more like a sledgehammer," he said. "The result of the semifinal is natural - the strongest has won.".
