VIENNA, July 9. /TASS/. Arms embargo against Iran may be maintained for 2 to 8 years in accordance with the final agreement between Tehran and the six world powers, a diplomatic source in Vienna told TASS on Thursday.
"Compromise on this matter is still possible," the source noted. "Arms embargo will be maintained for some time, the sides are discussing the timeframe from 2 to 8 years," the source added. "The possibility of lifting the embargo in two stages is discussed. At first, embargo may be suspended, and later lifted completely," he said.
The issue of lifting arms embargo from Iran remains one of disputed aspects of Iran’s deal with the six world powers. Russia repeatedly stated that lifting arms embargo should become one of the first steps after reaching the final comprehensive agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program. Both Iran and China support this position. However, Western countries want to keep arms embargo in place for a rather lengthy period of time.
