Canada to allocate $25 million to Ukraine, says top diplomat

KIEV, May 11. /TASS/. Canada plans to allocate 30 million Canadian dollars to Ukraine for humanitarian aims and the development of democratic institutions, the press service of the Ukrainian president quoted Canadian Foreign Minister Robert Nicholson as saying at talks with Pyotr Poroshenko on Monday.

"Nicholson stressed that his country would continue supporting Ukraine," the press service said. It also quoted the foreign minister as saying that the settlement of the situation in Donbass "was among priorities in Canada’s foreign policy".

It cited Poroshenko to say Ukraine strictly complied with the Minsk agreements and accuse the other side of violating them. Poroshenko thanked Canada for military and technical assistance and for dispatching a mission of 200 instructors to train Ukrainian military.

The interlocutors also showed interest in developing economic relations and having Canadian investment in Ukraine. Poroshenko hailed support for Kiev from the Canadian International Development Agency.
