World’s only Crimean Tatar TV channel suspends broadcasting

SIMFEROPOL, April 1. /TASS/. The world’s only Crimean Tatar-language ATR TV channel has suspended broadcasting in Crimea after failing to meet the deadline for registration under the Russian law.

The TV channel’s management has earlier asked the republic’s Radio and Television Transmission Center to temporarily switch off transmitters in Crimea from midnight on April 1 until the issue was resolved.

Meydan FM station, which is part of the holding, was also closed down on Wednesday.

The management of ATR and Meydan FM station has several times submitted documents for registration under the Russian law to Russia’s media watchdog, Roskomnadzor.

However, the watchdog was unable to accept the documents citing the repeated errors.

Crimea’s leader Sergey Aksyonov said that the errors in the documents had been made on purpose to "inflate conflict around the TV channel." He said earlier said Roskomnadzor would resolve the issue.
