Slovakia’s president says Russia responsible greatly for stability in Ukraine

BRATISLAVA, April 4. /TASS/. Russia bears a major part of responsibility for stabilisation of the situation in Ukraine’s south-east, Slovakia’s President Andrej Kiska told reporters on Saturday as he was commenting on a brief meeting with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is visiting the country.

"Russia should be responsible for implementation of the peace process in that Ukrainian region," the president said. "I hope weapons will not be used any more in the conflict in Ukraine’s south-east, and its sound will be replaced by a dialogue, and all parties will observe the reached agreements."

"The Russian leadership not only has opportunities, but bears a major part of responsibility for success of that process," the president said.

Head of Slovakia decided without participation of the Russian foreign minister to lay a wreath to the monument to Soviet soldiers, who liberated Bratislava 70 years ago.

About 300 veterans and activists, who were waiting for the Russian foreign minister there, catcalled the president.

On February 12, members of the Normandy Four on the Ukrainian conflict settlement (Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany) signed a four-page set of measures to implement the earlier Minsk agreements. Thus, France’s President Francois Hollande and Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel "being guarantors of the Minsk agreements, signed on February 12, 2015, undertook the responsibility for every item of the agreements, thus favouring and insisting all parties in the conflict without limitations will observe clearly the items of the Complex of Measures." This is what heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics Alexander Zakharchenko and Igor Plotnitsky stressed in their joint address, published on Saturday.
