KHABAROVSK, April 4. /TASS/. Russia's Ministry of Agriculture does not see reasons to lift the export duty on grain, Minister Nikolai Fedorov told reporters on Saturday.
"Every week we are discussing it [lifting the duty], but as yet there are no reasons to review the position, where the duty is announced to July 1," he said.
"Realistically, we have not considered either an extension or lifting of them," the minister said.
It is not reasonable to cancel the grain export duty so far and there are more arguments to extend it, Deputy Prime Minister Arcady Dvorkovich said on Friday.
"We will discuss this issue at a meeting next week. Reasoning from materials available with me for the time being, I do not regard the duty cancellation as appropriate," the deputy prime minister said.
The government received a request from grain producers with a proposal to abolish the duty, Dvorkovich said.
"Another proposal is indeed related to the option of the duty extension. I see more arguments exactly in favour of this decision but the final position has not yet been established. I will listen to everyone and then report," he added.
TASS reported earlier the Russian government asked to review the practicality of maintaining the wheat export duty from July 1, 2015 following the results of the conference call on March 25.
The Russian government imposed export duties on wheat from February 1, 2015 until the end of the 2014-2015 agricultural year [from July to June - TASS] in order to stabilize the price of bread and flour on the Russian domestic market against the background of the high rate of grain export from Russia due to the rouble devaluation. However, industry associations spoke up later for early cancellation of this measure.
