Looks like those strange self-made armors work. At least looking at those photos of an Ukrainian armored vehicle after the battle clearly can see that the damage occurred to the metal bars but not to the vehicle itself and looks like he successfully left the battlefield. Some more photos inside.
I am not very sure what on this particular photo but looks like the tires had some sort of sandbag protection on them installed.
