Russia Foreign Ministry: Actions That Might Undermine Ukraine Dialogue Unacceptable

2014/09/10

MOSCOW, September 10 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow advocates further dialogue in the format of the trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine and considers any actions that may hamper the negotiation process unacceptable, the Russia Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

The statement followed discussions between Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov, the German ambassador to Russia Rudiger von Fritsch and France's ambassador to Russia Jean-Maurice Ripert.

“During the talks, the situation in Ukraine has been discussed in the context of the efforts aimed at its peaceful settlement. The Russian side stressed the importance of continuing political dialogue within the Contact Group, as well as the unacceptability of any actions that may undermine it,” the ministerial statement said.

Representatives from Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) agreed to a ceasefire between Kiev and Ukrainian independence supporters during the September 5 meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine in Minsk.

The sides also agreed to international monitoring of the truce implementation, the “all to all” prisoner exchange and humanitarian aid access to the troubled regions.
