PRIMORSKY TERRITORY, September 24 (RIA Novosti) – An Eastern Military District motorized infantry brigade, with the help of air support, successfully defended Cape Klerk from the maneuver enemy in Primorye despite adverse weather conditions, a Russian Defense Ministry representative told journalists Wednesday.
"The task of anti-amphibious defense of the sea coast of Cape Klerk in Primorye was accomplished by the 70th Brigade of the 5th Army of the Eastern Military District. This involved about 1,000 people and about 300 units of weapons and military equipment," the ministry reported.
The brigade was activated during the exercise Vostok-2014 and was deployed to defend the the coast on the Sea of Japan but to get there, military units first had to traverse some 200 kilometers [124 miles] together by rail and in echelons.
The Vostok-2014 strategic military exercise in the Eastern Military District is taking place from September 19 to 25. The exercise was preceded by unannounced combat readiness checks.
