Msta-S is a Russian (Soviet) self-propelled howitzer that was first put into service back in 1989. The vehicle is based on the T-80 tank hull, but is powered by the T-72′s diesel engine.
“Msta-S†is intended to destroy tactical nuclear weapons, artillery and mortar batteries, tanks and other armoured equipment, anti-tank weapons, manpower, means of air and ballistic missile defence, command points, field fortifications, and also to prevent enemy maneuvers.
It can fire at observed and unseen targets from covered positions and by direct point, it can also operate in mountains (gun elevation +50°).
The armoured body of “Msta-S” is similar to that of a tank T-72 (with some exceptions).
The armament of “Msta-S” consists of a 152 mm howitzer and a 12,7 antiaircraft machine gun.
