MOSCOW, December 20 (RIA Novosti) – A woman in the Russian city of Cheboksary allegedly killed her two-year-old goddaughter by tying her up and leaving her in a shoebox, according to local investigators.
The woman – who had been asked to watch her goddaughter while the mother was at work – bound the girl’s hands and taped her mouth before placing her in a box in which she cut air holes. She then left the apartment.
“The child was too big for the box and was forced into a fetal position. The suspect returned five hours later to find the child had died,” investigators said in a statement.
The woman, who is now in police custody, could be charged with murder and faces a possible life sentence if convicted. Forensic experts are confirming the cause of death.
