2013/12/04

MOSCOW, December 4 (RIA Novosti) – Russian police said Wednesday that they confiscated over 2 billion rubles ($60.1 million) worth of fake money during a raid on a gang of counterfeiters.

The cash was seized from apartments in the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan used by members of a group making counterfeit money, a police statement said.

All the bills confiscated were in 5,000-ruble ($150) denominations, according to police.

The police said they pinpointed five attempts to introduce the fake money into circulation since starting their investigation earlier this year.

Five members of the group were detained and taken to Moscow, where four of them were placed under arrest ahead of being charged, police said.
