YEKATERINBURG, March 14 (RIA Novosti) – The organizer of the 2011 murder of a regional politician to was sentenced to 13 years in prison on Thursday by a court in Russia’s Urals region.
Alexander Sterkhov was found guilty of arranging the murder of Alexander Barybin, a city legislature deputy in the Sverdlovsk Region town of Irbit, the Sverdlovsk regional court stated on Thursday.
According to investigators, Sterkhov hired a traffic police inspector to kill Barybin, following a commercial dispute between the two men.
The police inspector, Anton Gazdeliani, fixed a tripwire attached to a grenade outside Barybin’s house, which exploded, fatally injuring the lawmaker. He died of his wounds in hospital two days later.
Sterkhov remained on the run until last July, when he was detained in Egypt and extradited to Russia.
Gazdeliani was sentenced in March 2012 to 14 years in jail.
