Russia to Help Set Up International Crisis Response Network

2013/01/30

KRASNOGORSK (Moscow Region), January 30 (RIA Novosti) - Russia’s Civil Defense and Emergency Situations Ministry (MChS) will contribute to the establishment of international crisis response centers in South America and other parts of the world, MChS head Vladimir Puchkov said on Wednesday.

“The MChS has begun setting up an international network of crisis response centers,” he said.

“The key hubs of that network will be the Russian-Serbian Humanitarian Center in the Balkans, the new crisis response centers in Nicaragua, Venezuela and Cuba, as well as the existing segment[…] at the UN headquarters in Geneva.”

Crisis management centers will also be set up to cover the Asia-Pacific region, he added.

“In addition to that, the MChS will form basic centers for coordination of humanitarian activity on all continents under the auspices of the UN,” Puchkov said.

He previously said the MChS was helping Venezuela and Nicaragua to set up public information and crisis management systems.
