MOSCOW, January 23 (RIA Novosti) – Police in Moscow said on Wednesday officers had uncovered a large amount of weapons, explosives and ammunition from an apartment in the city.

Police said officers had discovered three rifles, two handguns, grenades, artillery shells, mines, ammunition, grenade parts and other firearms under the bed and in the cupboard of a 32-year-old man, who is now in custody.

“The young man said he had illegally taken them from World War II digs, and had also purchased weapons for self-defense and his personal collection,” a police spokesperson said.

Police did not say what had led officers to the man’s apartment.
