Ural Winter Fairy Tale

2012/12/25

We about to visit the southern Urals where the national park Taganai is situated. In this particular case the word “southern” does not promise any hope, in January the temperature is lower than -30C (-22F) there and strong winds do not add any comfort.

This is the view of Bolshoi (Big) Taganai mountain.

People sometimes have to crawl to move somehow.

Santa could live somewhere nearby…

This is a loo. That wire is here to hold when the wind is too strong. They say that one girl was knocked down by the strong wind here – it’s too slippery at the loo.

This must be the coldest sunrise. The batteries in a cam do not work longer than 10-15 minutes.

This is a weather station that does not work anymore. Though in 2006 it was still functioning and people were here.

This can become a shelter for a traveller who finds himself/herself in this winter fairy-tale.
