Russia Contributes $2 Mln to African Peace Fund

MOSCOW, December 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has contributed $2 million to the African Union Peace Fund, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.


The agreement was signed on Friday by Russia’s AU envoy Valery Utkin and AU commissioner for peace and security Ramtane Lamamra.


It was previously reported that Russia made the decision to contribute to the AU Peace Fund, which unites 54 states on the continent, in May.


Russia’s contribution is expected to be spent on peacekeeping operations in Somalia and West African states.
