Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said those police officers who break the law end up in prison despite their ranks.
“Lawbreakers are put in prison despite ranks and titles,” Kolokoltsev said live on the Rossiya TV channel on Sunday evening.
He added that incidents when police officers commit offenses are not hushed up.
“Those officers who worked well will continue to work. For those who worked proceeding from other principles, times are uneasy now,” Kolokoltsev, who was appointed interior minister in May, said.
Critics accused Kolokoltsev’s predecessor on the post, Rashid Nurgaliyev, of failing to carry out a police reform.
