Homosexuality and the Decline in American Values

2018/11/30

This paper presents an opinion which is not likely to be accepted by most modern Americans, especially those who are millennials and the homosexual community.

It is not meant to be considered homophobic, but an opinion based upon facts.

While being considered for Pravda, more than likely it would not be presented favorably by mainstream media in America, which tends to support this type of lifestyle. Furthermore, nothing has really changed that much through history, since President Lincoln, the "savior" of American, a Marxist and anti-Jeffersonian was an alleged bi-sexual (Brookhiser, 2005). Surely, numerous citations throughout history could be presented, but it is beyond the scope of an opinion to do so.

Growing up as children, this was a topic that was at least avoided, if not ignored altogether. Those who were openly gay, especially in Southern states, in some families, were outcast by parents, or parents were to be embarrassed to discuss the matter socially.

Enter the Obama era, and things change dramatically.  It may be the biggest part of his legacy (Rauch, 2016).  During this time, he adopted a "don't ask, don't tell policy" within the military, but then the Supreme Court reach a decision in favor of civil unions and gay marriage, then thirty-seven states, more than 70% of those in the American Union, opt in favor of gay marriages and civil unions (Same-sex law map, 2018).

The most disturbing part of this liberalization is the fact that men in their country's uniform, which represent not only the flag, but the entire armed forces, have been allowed to openly participate in these types of ceremonies, which many in the military might consider it to be dishonoring their country's flag and uniform, however this represents a minority of people, and not the majority (Butcher & Heimlich, 2018).

President Trump campaigned in favor of LGBT rights, then quickly reversed course, virtually banning gays from the military upon assuming office, though it will not change Supreme Court decisions made under Obama's administration (Lopez, 2018).

The key argument which disfavors same sex marriages and civil unions, is the declining fertility rate, since child rearing and birth are obviously via nature, biologically only possible through a man and a woman. This will move the United States toward the same problems that plague other countries, like Japan, who tend to have fewer children, thus weakening the foundation and structure of society (Schumm, 2018 & Semuels, 2017). This will likely hasten the move toward robotic wives and singularity, in which man merges with machine. The author feels this direction will result in the eventual destruction of mankind, or at least a drastic decline. (Cuthebertson, 2018).

One author, who has been accused of homophobia, stated that the Roman Empire fell due to "a contagion of homosexuality" (Squires, 2011).

No matter what the opinion of those opposing this viewpoint will be, it is yet to be seen if America will take third place among the big three superpowers, that being Russia, China, and the United States, the former countries who tend to stand by morality over gay rights, (The Economist, 2018) which makes society stronger.

Trump/Putin Meeting at G20: On or Off? Showdown with China's Xi Jinping?

2018/11/30

Trump/Putin Meeting at G20: On or Off? Showdown with China's Xi Jinping?

G20 leaders will meet on Friday and Saturday in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Kiev's staged Black Sea provocation and Trump's trade war with China hang over the summit, along with US hostility toward Russia, endless war in Syria, and other major geopolitical issues.

Major Sino/US differences highlighted the mid-November APEC summit - notably America first protectionism v. fair trade.

by Stephen Lendman

For the first time, APEC leaders failed to agree on a joint communique, largely over major unresolved Sino/US disagreements.

Will the G20 summit end the same or a similar way - major differences between the Trump regime v. Russia and China highlighting it?

On Tuesday, John Bolton said Trump meet with Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Angela Merkel, Japan's Sinzo Abe, South Korea's Moon Jae-in, Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan, India's Narendra Modi, and Argentina's Mauricio Macri in Buenos Aires.

No meeting with Saudi crown prince Mohammad bin Salman is scheduled. According to White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, he hasn't "ruled out any interaction" with MBS.

It may or may not happen. Being together in the same venue, they'll certainly cross paths, perhaps to hold an unscheduled meeting - despite Bolton saying his schedule is "full to overflowing."

There's always time for what anyone wishes to do, no time for what someone wants avoided. According to Bolton, Putin and Trump will discuss "security issues, arms control, and regional issues, including the Middle East" - along with Kiev's Black Sea/Kerch Strait provocation and aftermath so far, if a meeting occurs. With one scheduled, it's hard imagining not having it with much to discuss.

On Tuesday, Trump threatened to cancel his meeting with Putin over the incident, saying "I am getting a report on that tonight and that will determine what happens at the meeting," adding:

"That will be very determinative. Maybe I won't have the meeting...We're going to see, depending on what comes out tonight."

He falsely blamed Russia for Kiev's provocation, saying "I don't like that aggression. I don't want that aggression at all. Absolutely. And by the way, Europe shouldn't like that aggression. And Germany shouldn't like that aggression."

No Russian "aggression" occurred any time under Vladimir Putin or when Dmitry Medvedev was president, not against Ukraine or any other countries - a US-dominated NATO/Israeli specialty, not the Kremlin's.

Kiev's November 25 Black Sea/Kerch Strait provocation was strategically timed ahead of Ukraine's March 2019 presidential election and this week's G20 summit.

The likely US/UK orchestrated incident was all about escalating East/West tensions, further undermining prospects for Putin/Trump agreement on key bilateral issues, along with whatever the US-installed Poroshenko regime hopes to gain from what happened.

Much rides on Trump's meeting with Xi Jinping. DLT threatened to increase tariffs on $250 billion worth of Chinese goods from 10 - 25% in January 1 if Beijing doesn't subordinate its economic interests to Washington's.

It clearly won't happen, but it remains to be seen if both leaders can find accommodation middle ground with each other - or at least delay the January 1 action and Trump's added threat to impose duties on all Chinese imports in the new year.

Ahead of DLT's meeting with Xi, Chinese envoy to Washington Cui Tiankai warned of "dire consequences" if both leaders fail to find accommodation with each other, adding:

"The lessons of history are (clear). In the last century, we had two world wars. And in between them, the Great Depression. I don't think anybody should really try to have a repetition of history. These things should never happen again, so people have to act in a responsible way."

Given Washington's rage for confrontation over diplomacy and permanent war agenda, he didn't rule out "all-out conflict" with the US if things deteriorate beyond resolution.

China didn't initiate trade war. It's largely Trump's call on how far to push it or be willing to step back from the brink.

Cui was clear saying "(w)e cannot accept that one side would put forward a number of demands and the other side just has to satisfy all these things."

According to hardline Trump regime chief economic advisor Larry Kudlow, DLT intends increasing tariffs on Chinese goods if there's no breakthrough in talks with Xi, adding discussions so far failed to yield what the White House demands.

If nothing comes from talks this weekend, Trump said he'll order additional tariffs on another $267 billion worth of Chinese imports, along with increasing tariffs to 25% - harming both countries and the world economy if he goes this far and sticks with it.

On Monday, he said "(t)he only deal that would be really acceptable to me - other than obviously we have to do something on the theft of intellectual property, right - but the only deal would be China has to open up their country to competition from the United States."

"They have to open up China to the United States. Otherwise, I don't see a deal being made."

America's huge and growing trade deficit with China is all about US corporations offshoring their production and other operations, along with millions of jobs, to low-wage countries.

Trump consistently fails to lay blame where it belongs - on corporate America, not China or other countries.

It's unclear if talks between him and Xi can achieve (or at least appear to achieve) what numerous previous Sino/US rounds failed to accomplish.

Perhaps agreeing on a reprieve is the best to hope for - so talks on major unresolved issues can continue in the new year.

A Final Comment

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said things are "settled" about Putin/Trump talks on the sidelines of this week's G20 summit - adding "(w)e have no...information otherwise."

It's hard imagining both leaders won't meet. Being in the same place at the same time, it seems virtually certain they'll meet with much to discuss.

Why you need the Revolution

2018/11/29

"The word Revolution is not, for us French, a vague word. We know that the Revolution is a rupture, the Revolution is an absolute. There is no moderate revolution, there is no revolutionary dirigism as there is the dirigism of the economy. What we announce will be done against the whole current system, or it will not be done. If we thought that this system is capable of reforming itself, that it can break away from itself the course of the fatal evolution towards the Dictatorship - the Dictatorship of Money - we would certainly refuse to run the risk of an explosion capable of destroying precious things, which they will reconstruct after a long time, of perseverance, of disinterestedness and of love.

by Maurizio Blondet

But the system will not change the course of its evolution, for the good reason that it does not evolve anymore; it is organized only for the purpose of simply lasting another moment, of surviving. Far from pretending to resolve its own contradictions, which are nonetheless insoluble, it seems increasingly ready to impose itself by force, thanks to a regulation that is more meticulous and narrower than the particular activities, made in the name of a kind of democratic form of dictatorship. Every day in fact the ideological period has long since surpassed, in New York as in London. We see the British Imperial Democracy, the American Plutocratic Democracy marching hand in hand with the Marxist empire of the Soviet Dominions, certainly pursuing the same final purpose, whatever the cost, having the air to fight it, the system within the which all they have acquired wealth and power. Because, after all, Russia plays the classic role of parliamentary opposition in the capitalist system."

"In short: regimes once opposed to ideology are nowadays closely linked by technology. It is always a matter of ensuring total mobilization for total war, in view of total mobilization for total peace. A world earned for Technique is lost for Freedom."

Who is the author of the above step? Perhaps a philosopher defender of Gillets Jaunes, a contemporary who lived the Paris events of 24 November? No, and the mention of the Soviet Union will have put you on notice. This is Georges Bernanos (1888-1948), and wrote these lines at the beginning of 1945. The Allies have just won, and he, the anti-Fascist of the Spanish Civil War, who also joined De Gaulle's liberation organization, travels around Europe to warn, in heated conferences, on the dangers of the post-Yalta world and on technological progress and unbridled capitalism - in a rapid pamphlet of which we can hardly today, immersed and slaves of digitization, intelligence artificial and virtual reality (or augmented), appreciate the prophetic value: "France against the Robots".

In the days of the totally unexpected uprising of the Peripheral France, it seemed useful to me to resume these lines. Bernanos is the Catholic writer, author of the famous Diary of a country curate. It is interesting to see how he speaks of the Revolution as an absolute, almost sacred. For us Italian Catholics, the Jacobin Revolution was an anti-Christian aberration and totalitarian terror; Bernanos knows this very well, he is also the author of the Carmelite Dialogue, in which he recalls the true story of the guillotined Carmelites of Compiègne on 17 July 1794, making of it a drama of fear, of grace and of accepted martyrdom. But as French, however, he recognizes the Revolution as extreme "sacred" political necessity, when the existing order has lost all legitimacy, it is anti-human and makes you as slaves.

If he saw what the System against which he invoked the Revolution became today, Bernanos would have little to change. To replace "Soviet Union" with the capitalist-communist China, which is not an alternative but a "parliamentary opposition" in the globalist system; and even better, with Saudi Arabia, this clot of obscurantist wickedness, despotic barbarity, hypocritical vices and unearned billions that is the most important ally of the West. It would denounce the sales of French weapons (174 new export licenses worth billions of euros, "bombs, mines, rockets, missiles, explosive devices") in the perfect knowledge that the monstrous Wahabi kingdom uses them to exterminate the population of Yemen.

Yemen where impoverished parents sell little girls to Arab husbands: "like Nojud, forcibly married by her father at the age of 10. In spite of the promise not to touch her until the first menstrual cycle, the husband has repeatedly abused her. For two months Nojud cried every night in the indifference of the acquired family and the violence of the "groom" irritated by her rejections". According to the Nada foundation, which fights very early marriages, more than 250 girls in Yemen were forcibly married in 2017, often after the loss of their parents. In the same year, 120 children were hospitalized in the first week of marriage, 12 did not survive their wedding night, six committed suicide; others died from complications due to early pregnancy.

https://www.agoravox.fr/tribune-libre/article/au-yemen-des-armes-francaises-209941

Only the Dictatorship of Money can explain this horrible incest among the "advanced" West (which affirms and promotes all the ever new "rights") with the most odious slavery, with such Arab bestiality, that the whole West accepts because it can to pay. Where the most aberrant aspect is the Western "good conscience" - the one that for example had Heiko Maas, the German foreign minister, write that the EU, now that the US has become barbarians under Trump, "must become the cornerstone of the international order" because "compromise and balance are in its DNA, [...] Europe rests on the rule of law, on respect for the weakest and our experience that international cooperation is not a zero sum game."

https://global.handelsblatt.com/opinion/making-plans-new-world-order-germany-us-trump-trans-atlantic-relations-heiko-maas-europe-956306

Thus, with perfect hypocritical conscience, after having reduced the Greek people to despair and destruction, Maas is sure that he is not the same and worse brutal than Trump's America and that the EU is a model of unattainable civilization as "association of States convinced of the advantages of multilateralism, which believe in international cooperation and the rule of law". Bernanos could not yet know this EU. Yet he describes it perfectly in that entity "which does not evolve anymore; it is organized only for the purpose of simply lasting again, of surviving. Far from pretending to resolve its own contradictions, which are nonetheless insoluble, it is more and more ready to impose itself by force, thanks to a more meticulous and narrower regulation of particular activities, made in the name of a sort of democratic form of dictatorship".

Democracy, this? Let's give the final word to Bernanos:

"I do not care to scandalize the weak spirits who oppose to reality words already dangerously emptied of substance, like "Democracy". What do I care? If you are too coward to look at this world to see it as it is, turn your eyes away, stretch your hands to its chains. [...] But do not commit the infamy of prostituting the word revolution, this religious word, this sacred word, dripping through the centuries of the blood of men. Especially not prostitutes the word "progress". Never a system has been more closed than this, it has offered less prospects of transformation, of change. This world is founded on a particular conception of man, common to the English economists of the eighteenth century as to Marx or Lenin. Sometimes it has been said that man is a religious animal. The global system has defined it once and for all as an economic animal: not only the slave, but the object, the almost inert, irresponsible material of economic determinism - and without the hope of freeing it, since it has no other reason than interest, profit. Bolted in itself by egoism, individual no longer appears except as a negligible quantity, subject to the logic of large numbers; we do not pretend to use him except as mass, based on the knowledge of the laws that govern the masses. So that progress is no longer in man, it is in technique, in the improvement of methods capable of allowing the ever more effective use of human material."

The Documented Ancient Construction Method of The Great Pyramid

2018/11/29

The Documented Ancient Construction Method of The Great Pyramid

The earliest historical documentation of Great Pyramid construction at Giza can be found in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible, in the Book of Ezekiel, Chapter One.

There were no ramps for raising Pyramid blocks on the Giza Plateau.

The four sided Pyramids at Giza have four innate stepped sides which can be regarded as "stone racks", and multiple ancient Egyptian wooden pinion-pulleys engaged with these stone racks to raise the Pyramid, progressively utilising a Pyramid under construction to the point of completion. The ancient method is elegant and the absolute opposite of what Hollywood has us believe. This is the earliest known example of Rack and Pinion Mechanics, wooden pulley machines, each having a mechanical advantage of 2.8 (MA = 2.8)

The earliest historical documentation of Great Pyramid construction at Giza can be found in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible, in the Book of Ezekiel, Chapter One.

Two thousand years after construction Ezekiel, a Hebrew priest-scribe-historian convened a gathering of Hebrew exiles to glean what had been spoken of and remembered throughout their generations.

What they told him on that particular stated day beside the River Chebar in Babylon, he wrote down, he documented.

By modern standards of technical writing, Ezekiel's transcribed reportage reads as florid mumbo jumbo. The time frame and North East African cultural psychology of describing actions through the innate characteristics of animals, in this case the Eagle, Lion, Ox and Man had to be considered over many weeks before being revealed and making perfect sense as attributes pertaining to location properties at any particular point during pulley hoisting operations.

Examples of innate animal characteristic language are, "soared like an eagle" and "strong as an ox".

When a Pyramid construction worker exclaimed "the ox has broken", the engineers knew the pulley lobe location was directly under and bearing the load of a Pyramid block, because the ox is the beast of burden and carries the load.

Only after my thorough understanding of the later historical documentation of Herodotus did Ezekiel's reportage make perfect sense and there is convergence of the construction method between these two documents. Such convergence of at least two documents by separate authors is usually considered proof of an event by most universities worldwide.

The second document is written by Herodotus, a Greek historian widely regarded as being "The Father of History". Herodotus asked many questions in his travels and recorded what he was told. In c.450 BC the Giza priesthood personally told Herodotus what they knew of Giza Pyramid construction.

I have confirmed what the Egyptian priest-scribe-historians explained to Herodotus to be absolutely correct and basically this is, Giza Pyramids were built using wooden pulley machines. Tomb models exist of these pulleys, known as "Petrie rockers". In museums these are labelled as "of unknown use".

Western World universities and mass-media are silenced, so hope the Eastern World can behold and investigate this epic revelation, all documented 2500 years ago, why wait longer? Could it be that fake history and fake news reporting rule over our modern world?
My thanks to Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey and Pravda for providing a democratic non-fake news platform.

US trade war with China - desperate move to save western empire

US trade war with China - desperate move to save western empire

By Andre Vltchek

Most of those who have had a chance to witness Chinese internationalist mega-projects, clearly understand that the West is near to collapsing; it will never be able to compete with tremendous enthusiasm and progressive spirit of the most populous country on earth, which on top of it, is built on socialist principles (with Chinese characteristics).

Writing this essay in rural Laos, I just saw, literally an entire army of Chinese engineers and workers in action, building huge bridges and tunnels, connecting one of the poorest countries in Asia, to both China and Southeast Asia, erecting hospitals and schools, small factories for the rural population, airports and hydro-electric powerplants or in brief: putting the great majority of Laotian people out of poverty by providing them with both livelihood and infrastructure.

China does precisely this all over the world, from the tiny South Pacific island nations to African countries, plundered for centuries by Western colonialism and imperialism. It helps Latin American nations that are in need, and while it does all that, it is also quickly growing into a middle class, ecologically and culturally responsible nation; a nation which is likely to eradicate all extreme misery very soon, most likely by the year 2020.

The West is horrified!

This could easily be the end of its global order, and it could all actually happen much earlier than expected.

And so, it antagonizes, provokes China, in all imaginable ways possible, from the US military buildup in Asia Pacific, to encouraging several Southeast Asian countries plus Japan to politically and even militarily irritate the PRC. Anti-Chinese propaganda in the West and its client states has lately been reaching a cacophonic crescendo. China is attacked, as I recently described in my essays, from literally all sides; attacked for being 'too Communist', or 'for not being Communist enough'.

The West, it seems, despises all the economic practices of China, be it central planning, 'capitalist means for socialist ends', or the unwavering desire of the new Chinese leadership to improve the standard of living of its people, instead of enriching multi-national corporations at the expense of the common citizens of the PRC.

It looks like a trade war, but it actually is not: like the 'West versus Russia', the 'West versus China' is an ideological war.

China, together with Russia, is effectively de-colonizing part of the world which used to be at the mercy and disposal of the West and its companies (as well as the companies of such client-states of the West as Japan and South Korea).

However it is being labelled, de-colonization is clearly taking place, as many poor and previously vulnerable countries worldwide are now seeking protection from Beijing and Moscow.

But to 'add insult to injury', parallel to de-colonialization, there is also 'de-dollarization', that is inspiring more and more nations, particularly those that are victims of Western embargos, and the unjust, often murderous sanctions. Venezuela is the latest such example.

The most reliable and stable 'alternative' currency that is being adopted by dozens of countries, for international transactions, is the Chinese Yuan (RMB).

*

The prosperity of the entire world, or call it 'global prosperity', is clearly not what the West desires. As far as Washington and London are concerned, the 'surrounding', peripheric world is there predominantly,to supply raw materials (like Indonesia), cheap labor (like Mexico), and guarantee that there is an obedient, indoctrinated population which sees absolutely nothing wrong with the present arrangement of the world.

In his recent essay for the Canadian magazine Global Research titled "IMF - WB - WTO - Scaremongering Threats on De-Globalization and Tariffs - The Return to Sovereign Nations" a distinct Swiss economist and a colleague of mine, Peter Koenig, who used to work for the World Bank, wrote:

"As key representatives of the three chief villains of international finance and trade, the IMF, World Bank (WB) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) met on the lush resort island of Bali, Indonesia, they warned the world of dire consequences in terms of reduced international investments and decline of economic growth as a result of the ever-widening trade wars initiated and instigated by the Trump Administration. They criticized protectionism that might draw countries into decline of prosperity. The IMF cuts its global economic growth forecast for the current year and for 2019.

This is pure scaremongering based on nothing. In fact, economic growth of the past that claimed of having emanated from increased trade and investments has served a small minority and driven a widening wedge between rich and poor of both developing and industrialized countries. It's interesting, how nobody ever talks about the internal distribution of GDP growth..."

Peter Koenig further argues that globalization and 'free trade' are far from desirable for the majority of the countries on our planet. He is giving an example of China:

"Time and again it has been proven that countries that need and want to recover from economic fallouts do best by concentrating on and promoting their own internal socioeconomic capacities, with as little as possible outside interference. One of the most prominent cases in point is China. After China emerged on 1 October 1949 from centuries of western colonization and oppression by Chairman Mao's creation of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Mao and the Chinese Communist party first had to put a devastated 'house in order', a country ruined by disease, lack of education, suffering from hopeless famine as a result of shameless exploitation by western colons. In order to do that China remained practically closed to the outside world until about the mid- 1980's. Only then, when China had overcome the rampant diseases and famine, built a countrywide education system and became a net exporter of grains and other agricultural products, China, by now totally self-sufficient, gradually opened its borders for international investments and trade. - And look where China is today. Only 30 years later, China has not only become the world's number one economy, but also a world super power that can no longer be overrun by western imperialism."

To be self-sufficient may be great for the people of every country on our planet, but it is definitely a 'crime' in the eyes of the West.

Now China is not only independent, but it dares to introduce to the entire world a totally new system, in which private companies are subservient to the interests of the state and the people. This is the total opposite to what is happening in the West (and its 'client states'), where the governments are actually indebted to private companies, and where people exist mainly in order to generate huge corporate profits.

On top of it, China's population is educated, enthusiastic, patriotic and incredibly productive.

As a result, China competes with the West, and it is easily winning the competition. It does it without plundering the world, without overthrowing foreign governments, and starving people.

This is seen by the United States as 'unfair competition'. And it is being punished by sanctions, threats and provocations. Call it a 'trade war', but it actually isn't.

And why unfair competition? Because China is refusing to 'join' and to play by the old imperialist rules dictated by the West, and also readily accepted by countries such as Japan and South Korea. China does not want to rule. And that scares the West.

*

In a way, both President Trump and the present leadership of China want to make their countries 'great again'. However, both countries see greatness differently.

For the United States, to be 'great' is to control the world, once again, as it did right after WWII.

For China, to be great is to provide a high quality of living for its citizens, and for the citizens of most of the world. It also means, to have great culture, which China used to have for millennia, before the 'era of humiliation', and which was rebuilt and greatly improved from the 1949, onward.

*

A leading US philosopher, John Cobb Jr., in a book which we are writing together, recently pointed out:

"Ever since World War II, what the United States has done has been widely copied.  Hence this country has had a great opportunity to lead the world.  For the most part, it has led in the wrong direction.  The United States and the whole world, including China, are paying, and will continue to pay, a high price.  But the days of American leadership are ending.  I would still like for the U.S. to engage in major reforms, but it is too late for these to change the world. We can rejoice that the American century is giving way to the Chinese century."

Many do, but some don't. The end of the American leadership, or call it the "American Century", may scare people in various Western countries, particularly in Europe. Rightly so! Those days of unopposed Western economic dictatorship are over. Soon, perhaps, Europeans will have to really compete, and work hard for their money, instead of living high life relying on plunder of natural resources and cheap labor in their semi or neo-colonies.

While many in the West are scared, the situation is simultaneously rising hopes in all other parts of the world.

For China, not to yield to the US pressure, is to show that it is serious when it comes to its independence. The most populous nation on earth is ready to defend its interests, its people and its values.

It is far from being alone. From Russia to Iran, from Venezuela to South Africa, new and newer nations are going to stand by China, and by doing so, they will be defending their own independence and freedom.

U.S. Intentionally Attacks Civilians: Afghan Women's Leader

2018/11/27

U.S. Intentionally Attacks Civilians: Afghan Women's Leader

As the UN reports, year by year, a dramatic increase on civilians killings in Afghanistan, and the International Criminal Court does not advance in investigating such crimes by the local governments, terrorists and the US-led forces, Friba, the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan's representative, states in the following interview with Pravda.ru that the US has opressed and destroyed to dominate her country.

"The lives of Afghans has no value for the US," Friba says. "Such disproportionate use of force can only be titled as intentional attacks on civilian populations."

Edu Montesanti: As UNAMA recently issued reports on the dramatic increase of civilians deaths in Afghanistan, which does not change year by year, the International Criminal Court (ICC) is considering to investigate crimes committed in Afghanistan by the local government, the Taliban and other anti-government forces, and the US-led forces. Your view on the ICC and Unama, and how much RAWA is confident that the US will be taken to an international court.

Friba: For years, RAWA has made extensive efforts to prosecute fundamentalist criminal warlords through ICC or other courts, but as predictable, it has not borne any result. We all know the reality of these bodies that serve the agenda of imperialist countries, and don't stand for justice.

UNAMA, as the UN in general is a US-dominated entity and a small tool in its hands for its imperialist pursuits. For decades now, the victims of the US's wars and interventions have learned this bitter truth and have no hopes or expectations from the UN, which has openly persecuted the US's rivals around the world while largely ignoring the US's own crimes.

Afghan representatives in the UN are also CIA sell-outs who are the mouthpieces of the US, furthering its aims in the UN. This is not to mention the widespread corruption that has hit UN for years.

While the UN's shameful past is one of a pro-US body, the ICC has yet to earn this unpopular status. The present wars inAfghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria are also testing grounds for the ICC to establish whether it is an impartial body that will go after all war criminals, or just be a pro-US body that ignores the crimes committed by the US and its allies and its puppets, like the UN.

The recent decision by the chief prosecutor of the ICC to seek an investigation into alleged war crimes perpetrated by U.S. military forces and the CIA in Afghanistan is a positive step, despite the fact that many do not see the investigation as yielding any result.

Edu Montesanti: We have recently talked about the old imperialistic strategy, oppress and destroy to dominate a region, as you and I were talking about US killing of civilians increasing year by year, since 2001. The ICC reported that "although these operations [US attacks] resulted in incidental loss of civilian life and harm to civilians, in most incidents the information available does not provide a reasonable basis to believe that the military forces intended the civilian population as such or individual civilians not taking direct part in hostilities to be the object of the attack.", I firmly believe, given the facts regarding these killings and US practices in Afghanistan and all over the world through history, that at least many of these crimes against innocents in your country is intentional to destroy and dominate Afghanistan, as well as a consequence of hatred, discrimination, drug effect on the US military, mentally ill soldiers, revenge for the 9/11  false flag...

What are your thoughts on the killings of civilians in Afghanistan, Friba?

Friba: The lives of Afghans has no value for the US. I agree with all the points mentioned above: hatred, racist discrimination, dehumanization, drug effect, mentally ill, revenge, and most importantly to dominate the region. In Iraq, I especially believe that they bombarded the country and tortured and killed people to dominate it. Afghanistan was already destroyed by 20 years of war when the US came.

"Oppress and destroy to dominate" is a very effective tactic to take over a country or nation, as demonstrated by the US in Iraq and Libya recently. A developed country with an independent government will never accept foreign domination. Driving a country towards poverty and devastation with the utter obliteration of its economic base, basic infrastructure, and state system will oppress its people and destroy the country to the point that it breaks the backbone of the nation and they cannot resist any oppression.

This tactic was effectively implemented by the US's Jihadi lackeys during the infighting of 1992-1996, when the Northern Alliance's Pakistani masters ordered the destruction of every basic infrastructure of the country immediately after these Jihadi brutes took power.

Now after more than 20 years of war, the Afghan people are too tired and deprived of a humane life to seek their bigger desires for their country, like indepetndence, freedom, democracy and social justice.

The majority of the attacks by the US are carried out without accurate intelligence and regard to civilian lives, resulting in bloody massacres through airstrikes, drone strikes, night raids, and shootings across Afghanistan.

After all these years, the US understands the fighting tactics of the Taliban very well: they fight guerilla-style and immediately leave an area after carrying out their operation, leaving behind innocent civilians who have nowhere to escape to. Bombarding an area after an operation has been carried out, and has usually only targeted innocent civilians. This well-known pattern has been ignored by the US military. In certain cases, an entire gathering or village has been bombarded to target a few Taliban members or a single Taliban commander.

Such disproportionate use of force can only be titled as intentional attacks on civilian populations. There is overwhelming evidence, in the form of admission by US army members and leaked documents, like The Intercept reported that 90% the people killed in drone strikes were not the target, that most attacks that have caused loss of innocent lives, have either been intentional or highly reckless.

Most of the troops and private company contractors sent in the Afghan war were brainwashed with hatred for Afghans and motivated by revenge for 9/11. This made innocent Afghan civilians easy prey for them to fulfill their sick hatred.

There are numerous examples of murderous, intentional attacks on innocent people by such troops and contractors in Afghanistan, as well as the other US victim, Iraq, where people have been killed, decapitated, and humiliated for fun. The infamous "Kill Team" and the Panjwai massacre are only two incidents that were exposed and investigated. Many incidents, especially in botched raids and night raids, go uninvestigated.

The consistence of these war crimes is not surprising since the US military has avoided investigation and prosecution of war crimes in Afghanistan, providing untrue accounts of events and protecting the troops who are involved in crimes. US troops also have immunity from prosecution in Afghanistan under the Bilateral Security Agreement signed between the traitorous Afghan government and the US in 2014.

The investigations and prosecutions carried out by the US army itself cannot be just and fair which is why US troops guilty of crimes have either escaped punishment or received a slap on the wrist for their heinous crimes. This immunity encourages the US troops and contractors to continue their crimes without worrying about consequences or fear of punishment or accountability. This is why weddings, hospitals and densely populated villages continue to be attacked causing innocent people to die.

If we broadly talk about intention, the US never "intended" to "liberate" our people, restore peace, or fight terrorists in its "war on terror", in the first place, and the fact that this criminal war took the lives of thousands of innocent women, children, and men, should not escape prosecution and condemnation just because it was not "intentional".

Can the discussion of "intention" be the answer for the people who have lost their children and family members and are looking for justice? Certainly not. This goes against the very concept of justice, of holding armies and governments accountable for their actions, so as to stop the reoccurrence of such crimes.

The ICC should not deceive itself and the people of the world by turning a blind eye to such war crimes on simply the defense of "intention". If the ICC is adamant in its pursuit of justice, then it should take some concrete action against the commission of war crimes like the Kunduz hospital attack, the Balabuluk massacre, the Shindand massacare, and countless others that have not even been reported and investigated.

Edu Montesanti: We have also talked on Wali Karzai, a CIA asset who was a drug dealer in Afghanistan. Wali is a key figure to understand the CIA's role in Afghanistan, and his killing in July 2011 looks something to burn an alive file against the CIA, don't you think so, Friba?

Friba: We do not have an exact information on Wali Karzai. We know as much as the media exposed.

However, we have several theories, nothing confirmed, as to why he might have been killed and by who. Most probably he was targeted by the US, maybe for many hidden reasons, but mainly because the US is very careful in making sure no figure accumulates too much power in any part of Afghanistan. This is especially true for corrupt warlords who may deviate from serving the US in their pursuit for money and power and that is unacceptable to the US. We have observed this policy of the US here.

Another possibility is that he was simply killed in typical, internal mafia conflicts. In any case, what is a fact is that he was involved in drug trade, money laundering, had a death squad, and most importantly, on CIA payroll.

Edu Montesanti: We sometimes hear that US companies have been extracting rare earth minerals in Afghanistan: Oh, a "new" news...

Friba: Old news, Edu Jan. When English troops were in Helmand province for years, people reported that they dug up uranium and transported them secretly out of Afghanistan by air. We have so many accounts of such dirty plunders of these countries.

Post-2001, English troops were mainly stationed in that southern province for years. There was not even that much war and insecurity and Taliban presence at that time, so it was very suspicious. Many such suspicious activities have been reported from everywhere.

While such reports are useful to denounce US war (using their own sources against them), I don't think it paints a true picture of Afghanistan. It makes it appear as though the US is truly fighting terrorism in Afghanistan and really struggling against the Taliban, and that this corruption is the only hindrance. While the corruption part is true, and that many young soldiers have unfortunately been brainwashed into fighting this war, the truth is that the US's bigger policy in the region is not to fight the Taliban/ISIS, rather to use them as tools for their gains. Such reports only deceive the people of the US and the world into believing this is a "good" war.

Edu Montesanti: How do you describe the 17-year long US occupation of Afghanistan?

Friba: Afghanistan's situation is different from the other current US wars because Afghanistan is under the direct occupation of the US, with no other country currently even competing with it, and is dominated in all parts by the US's Islamic fundamentalist mercenaries, the Afghan puppet government, ISIS and Taliban.

Naturally, our country's devastation, politically, socially, and economics-wise, is the direct result of this occupation and domination. Our people have tasted the US's 17-year neo-colonial war and the disasters it has brought upon them. Insecurity, war, killings, torture, violence against women, poverty, mafia, corruption, unemployment, refugee or immigration crisis, drugs, are all gifts of the US occupation to our people.

This reality gets zero coverage around the world and it is painful how people have a distorted picture of the US's criminal war in Afghanistan and other countries.

Edu Montesanti: Please speak a little more about RAWA's origins, and the movement's current work.

Friba: RAWA was based in Pakistan during the wars of Afghanistan, 1980s and 90s, when the situation was too difficult for us to carry out our activities. In the 80s, the so-called Communist regime was rabidly after intellectuals and activists, especially revolutionaries and leftists, struggling against it. Then the civil war and Taliban came in the 90s. Even in Pakistan, RAWA was not safe, as our young leader, Meena, was martyred in Quetta by the bloodthirsty Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.

Our activities were still largely carried out in Afghanistan, but underground. RAWA's name had become synonymous with resistance against foreign occupation, the Soviet occupation, and a fierce, relentless struggle against the more dangerous species, the Islamic fundamentalists on the US/Pakistan/Saudi Arabia/Iran's leash who took power in 1992. While we held demonstrations and functions in Pakistan, and worked extensively among Afghan women through social projects in refugee camps, our publications were distributed secretly all over Afghanistan, and we had underground activities for women all over Afghanistan as well, such as literacy courses and income generating projects.

While RAWA was formed to fight for women's rights and equality, we simply believe that that goal is unattainable without freedom, from foreign occupation/intervention, democracy, a real democracy achieved by the people's struggle and not the mockery the US has made out of it since 2001, social justice and secularism. This has been RAWA's slogan since it was formed in 1977.

RAWA moved back to Afghanistan in 2001 after the relative calm and continues to operate in different parts, but underground. Our enemies, the fundamentalists, are still powerful thanks to the West's backing, and we still cannot work openly. We do not have an official office or a phone number, we operate under different names and our members use pseudonyms. The situation has not changed much for us, and similar movements in Afghanistan.

Russia has every right to destroy Ukrainian warships

2018/11/27

Following the clash in the Kerch Strait near Crimea, Ukraine introduced martial law. The relations between Russia and Ukraine have been extremely tense since the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine in 2014. Ukraine calls Russia an aggressor, so it appears that seizing and even destroying Ukrainian ships would be normal against such a background.

On November 25, Ukrainian boats and tugboats, heading from Odessa to the Sea of Azov, tried to enter the Kerch Strait without prior warning, but were stopped by Russian border guards. At around
noon, a Russian dry cargo vessel blocked the passage of ships through the Kerch Strait between the Black and Azov Seas. Russian military vessels, as well as Su-25 attack planes and Ka-52 military helicopters were seen patrolling the area. The Ukrainian ships started making dangerous manoeuvres, but were detained and taken to the port of Kerch. Three Ukrainian navy men were wounded in the incident after Russia opened fire at Ukrainian vessels.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin urged the West to form a coalition to counter "Russia's acts of aggression." Russia says that she has been controlling the waters near the Crimea after the reunification with the peninsula in 2014. Moscow noted that in September, two ships of the Ukrainian Navy passed  under the Kerch Bridge to Mariupol, but the ships had submitted an appropriate application and received permission to sail through the Kerch Strait in the prescribed manner.

Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that the Ukrainian authorities use "gangster methods" in carrying out provocations with Ukrainian vessels in the Kerch Strait. According to her, "having torn Ukraine apart, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and the whole Maidan company will travel around the world giving lectures on benefits of democracy."

We would like to note here that Ukraine's most recent provocation is very similar to the provocation that the United States conducted in the Vietnamese Gulf of Tonkin on August 2, 1964. The Americans then claimed that their ship was attacked by Vietnamese boats. The incident triggered the Vietnam War. The Americans admitted afterwards that they had lied about the attack. These days, the United States will courageously fight against Russia to the last Ukrainian national.

Figuratively speaking, if there is a rifle hanging on the wall, then it absolutely must go off. In January, the Ukrainian Parliament declared Russia an aggressor, and the Donbass - the occupied territories. In other words, Ukraine de facto declared war on Russia. On November 7, a law was passed in Ukraine, according to which Russian citizens crossing the Ukrainian border outside checkpoints should be jailed for up to eight years. It appears that clashes like those in the Kerch Strait come natural for the Kiev authorities. If there is a war, then not only can Russia seize - she can even sink Ukrainian vessels.

Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Ukrainian Centre for Political Studies and Conflictology, told Pravda.Ru that the provocation with the Ukrainian vessels near the Crimea was arranged for the domestic purpose - the Ukrainian administration wants to stay in power no matter how difficult the economic situation in Ukraine may be. Russia's reaction to the provocation came absolutely natural  - Russia did what it was supposed to do, the political scientist said.

"Yet again, they have made Ukraine look like a miserable victim. They have presented Ukraine as a victim, jeopardised the upcoming meeting between Trump and Putin - not to let them come to any sort of agreement," the expert believes.

Mikhail Pogrebinsky also said that the Rada will most likely cancel the elections that Ukraine is to hold on March 31, 2019. "Yulia Tymoshenko will generate a major scandal if it happens. We will witness a circus of propaganda war between those whose dream was to wage a proxy war against Moscow and the people who will accuse Poroshenko of dictator's ambition. Yet, there will be no real war, there are no reasons for it," Mikhail Pogrebinsky said.

Arrested Ukrainian navy man admits Kerch incident was provocation

2018/11/27

Russia's FSB published a video of the interrogation of Vladimir Lesovoy, a third rank captain of the Ukrainian Navy, who acknowledged that he consciously ignored calls from Russian border guards to stop. Lesovoy also said that the goal of the raid was to stage a provocation.

Other questioned Ukrainian navy men, in particular, Lieutenant Alexey Drach, confirmed that he and his colleagues had been warned that they were violating the maritime border of the Russian Federation.

Vasily Gritsak, the chief of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), confirmed that there were SBU military counterintelligence officers on board the Ukrainian vessels, which Russia detained in the Kerch Strait on November 25.

"Officers of Ukrainian special services were providing counterintelligence support for the Ukrainian Navy group in accordance with Article 12 of the law "About the Security Service of Ukraine," Gritsak said.

On November 25, three Ukrainian ships crossed the Russian border and entered the temporarily closed water area. Surrounded by Russian boats and ships, the Ukrainian vessels continued  manoeuvring and ignored demands from Russian border guards who were asking them to stop. At first, Russian ships fired warning shots at the Ukrainian vessels and then opened fire with an intent to destroy them. Three Ukrainian navy men were wounded. They received medical assistance, there is no threat to their lives. The Ukrainian ships were detained 50 kilometres from the site, where vessels usually sail in the Kerch Strait.

Russia opened a criminal case in connection with the incident in the Kerch Strait. Ukraine called the incident an act of military aggression. President Petro Poroshenko introduced martial law in Ukraine for one month, putting Ukrainian troops on high alert.

Russia proposed to urgently hold the UN Security Council to discuss the crisis, but the initiative was blocked by a majority vote.

Anti-Russia Ukraine Provocation

2018/11/27

by Stephen Lendman

Ukraine is a virtual US colony - the way it's been since the Obama regime's February 2014 coup, replacing democratic governance with fascist tyranny in Europe's heartland.

Ukraine shares a near-1,500 mile land and sea border with the Russian Federation, the longest Western frontier with the country.

The regime running things is a hotbed of militarized extremism, waging war on its own people, committing appalling human rights abuses - with full support and encouragement from Washington and key NATO countries.

Stop NATO's Rick Rozoff earlier explained that Ukraine is "the decisive linchpin in plans by the US and its NATO allies to effect a military cordon sanitaire, severing Russia from Europe" - part of a sinister plot, risking East/West confrontation.

Vladimir Putin earlier said "(t)he appearance on our borders of a powerful military bloc...will be considered by Russia as a direct threat to our country's security," adding:

Russian missiles will target Ukraine if it joins NATO or allows Washington's (solely for offense) missile defense shield to be installed in the country.

Two important developments are worrisome. US orchestrated and directed Kiev war on Donbass in the country's southwest since March 2014 intensified.

Ukrainian forces began heavily shelling residential areas of the People's Republic of Donetsk (DPR) in Donbass, the heaviest aggression in over a year.

It came after Kiev installed S-300 air defense systems along the Donbass border, at the same time as a likely US orchestrated CW false flag occurred in Aleppo, Syria, and a provocation by Ukrainian naval vessels in Russian Black Sea waters.

According to Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), three Ukrainian vessels violated Russia's state border (on Sunday)...another attempt of committing illegal activities in Russia's territorial sea at 19:00 Moscow time on November 25," adding:

"They did not respond to legitimate demands by the ships and boats of Russia's FSB Border Guard Service escorting them to stop immediately and performed dangerous maneuvers."

"(W)eapons were used to force the Ukrainian warships to stop." The ships and their crew members were seized and detained. "Three wounded military servicemen of the Ukrainian armed forces received medical assistance."

The Kremlin initiated a criminal investigation into the incident. Kiev understands proper navigation procedures for passing through Russian territorial waters, including the Kerch-Yenikale Canal.

The US installed Poroshenko regime followed innocent passage procedure before, not on Sunday, committing an unacceptable provocation.

Two more Ukrainian warships headed toward the same area, turning back before improperly and illegally entering Russian waters.

According to the FSB, "before making such dangerous and irresponsible decisions, the Kiev leadership should have thought about possible consequences of its actions."

Russia has what it calls "irrefutable evidence" of the staged provocation - to be revealed soon.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin slammed Kiev, calling the incident "premeditated." Its aim was likely all about imposing martial law for 60 days ahead of March 2019 presidential elections, along with a pretext for imposing more illegal US sanctions on Russia.

"Obviously, it is easier for Poroshenko to carry out his election campaign amid this background," Karasin explained, adding:

"Unfortunately, our worst fears have proved true. Kiev and the West have chosen the Sea of Azov as a region where Ukrainian provocative actions can promptly give results that are required in order to trigger an international scandal."

Moscow called for an emergency Security Council meeting on Monday to discuss what it called "maintenance of international peace and security" - despite US/UK/French veto power preventing condemnation of what happened.

Russia no doubt will be blamed for the provocation committed against the country, a familiar pattern repeated many times before.

Kiev's action violated Articles 19 and 21 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea by entering Russian territorial waters without permission, along with failure to respond as required to legal Russian demands and conducting dangerous maneuvers.

Under a 2003 treaty, Russia and Ukraine have freedom of navigation rights in the Kerch Strait - providing defined rules are followed through the narrow waterway.

Requesting and receiving permission to sail through the Strait is required. Kiev acted extrajudicially, according to Moscow.

The Kerch Strait separates the Crimean Republic from the Russian mainland. Russian Federal Security Service forces are responsible for maintaining order along the country's land and maritime borders.

Its officers repeatedly asked the Ukrainian vessels to leave Russian territorial waters, ignored by their commanders. The maritime area in question was temporarily closed to navigation for security reasons.

Video released by Moscow showed Ukrainian vessels maneuvering provocatively close to Russian ones.

An FSB statement said Russian warships opened fire after Ukrainian vessels repeatedly ignored "legal demands to stop" and leave the area.

They continued "performing dangerous maneuvers" - an illegal breach of required protocol. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova slammed what happened saying:

Kiev "first stages a provocation, then plays power games, and  accuses" Russia for its own unacceptable provocation.

The incident begs the question. Did Trump regime hardliners, together with Pentagon commanders, orchestrate what happened? Was the incident staged as prelude for more tough US actions on Russia?

The White House has yet to react to the incident. Putin and Trump are expected to meet on the sidelines of this week's Nov. 30-Dec.1 G20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The incident surely is to be discussed.

Asia-Pacific takes stock of ambitious development targets

2018/11/27

By Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana and Natalia Kanem

Ministers and senior policymakers across Asia and the Pacific are gathered in Bangkok this week to focus on population dynamics at a crucial time for the region. Their goal: to keep people and rights at the heart of the region's push for sustainable development. They will be considering how successful we have been in balancing economic growth with social imperatives, underpinned by rights and choices for all as enshrined in the landmark Programme of Action stemming from the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development, or ICPD.

In the Programme of Action, diverse views on population, gender equality, sexual and reproductive health, and sustainable development merged into a remarkable global consensus that placed individual dignity and human rights at the heart of development.

Truly revolutionary at the time, ICPD remains all the more urgent and relevant a quarter-century later, in this era of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with its Sustainable Development Goals.  Without ICPD we would not have the SDGs, and indeed they go hand in hand. The ICPD is a dedicated vehicle through which we can - and will - address, achieve and fulfill the SDGs.

How well have we responded to trends such as population ageing and international migration? How successful have we been in ensuring optimal sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights for all, including the right to choose when or whether to get married and when or whether to have children, and how many? How well have we done in strengthening gender equality and women's empowerment, and upholding the rights of the most vulnerable among us? Where should our efforts be refocused to leave no one behind?

Asia and the Pacific has much to celebrate. The region remains the engine of global growth and at the forefront of the global fight against poverty. It is now home to half the world's middle class. The share of the population living in poverty has dropped considerably although it is still unacceptably high. People are living, longer healthier lives. Rights-based family planning has contributed to considerable economic success and women's empowerment. And we are on track to achieve universal education by 2030.

Yet for all this growth, considerable injustices remain. On its current trajectory, the region will fall short of achieving the 2030 Agenda. In several areas we are heading in altogether the wrong direction. Inequalities within and between countries are widening. Some 1.2 billion people live in poverty of which 400 million live in extreme poverty. Lack of decent job opportunities and access to essential services are perpetuating injustice across generations.

At the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), we are keen to shine the spotlight on three key issues where regional commitment is vital.

First, we need to respond to the unprecedented population changes unfolding across the Asia-Pacific region. Many countries are facing a rapidly ageing population. The proportion of people above the age of sixty is expected to more than double by 2050. Effectively meeting the needs of an ageing society and ensuring healthy and productive lives must be a priority. This requires a life cycle approach - from pregnancy and childbirth, through adolescence and adulthood, to old age - ensuring that all people are allowed to fulfil their socioeconomic potential, underpinned by individual rights and choices.

Equally, there is a strong case for strengthening Asia-Pacific's response to international migration. Migrants can, when allowed, contribute significantly to development. However, we know that migrants are vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. So, our ambition is for discussions this week to build further momentum in support of safe, orderly and regular migration to fully harness its development benefits.

Second, there is clear evidence the region must spend more on social protection, as well as on health care and education. Today, social protection is the preserve of a few, rather than a right for all. As a result, 60 per cent of our population are at risk of being trapped in vulnerability or pushed into poverty by sickness, disability, unemployment or old age, often underpinned by gender inequality. The "Social Outlook for Asia and the Pacific: Poorly Protected", which ESCAP will publish later this week, sets out why expanding social protection is the most effective means of reducing poverty, strengthening rights and making vulnerable groups less exposed. Many women, migrants, older persons and rural communities would also benefit. Our evidence suggests it could even end extreme poverty in several countries by 2030.

Third, we need to invest in generating disaggregated data to tell us who is being left behind to ensure our response to population dynamics is targeted and credible. Availability of data on social and demographic issues lag far behind anything related to the economy. Millions of births remain unregistered, leading to the denial of many basic rights, particularly to women and girls. Of the 43 countries which conducted a census between 2005 and 2014, only 16 have reliable data on international migration. With the 2020 round of censuses upon us, we will be redoubling our efforts to close these data gaps by strengthening new partnerships for data capacity and working with governments and other partners to translate data into policy and action.

The Midterm Review of the Asian and Pacific Ministerial Declaration on Population and Development as well as the Committee on Social Development provide the region with an opportunity to speak with one voice on population and development issues. ESCAP and UNFPA stand united in their commitment to supporting their Member States to build and strengthen a regional response to issues that will shape the future for generations to come.

We look to this week's discussions to galvanize countries behind the ambition and vision that link ICPD and the SDGs and accelerate work to leave no one behind in Asia and the Pacific.

Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana is United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)
Dr. Natalia Kanem is United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)

The horror of the Islamic gangs in the UK

2018/11/26

Pervert and inhumane. These are just two of the adjectives used by the judge in Leeds to describe 20 men, all of Pakistani origin, sentenced to Huddersfield. What apparently seems a quiet town in the heart of Britain hid, and according to several sources still hides, a traffic of disturbing child sexual exploitation. In other words, even girls aged only 11 have been turned into sex slaves. Such as? The gang lured prey on the street, leaving school or the bus station. Apparently, it could be a simple invitation to a party. But here, then, there were alcohol. Moreover, the drugs were inside the drinks. What happened next can be imagined. "At one point I was alone with one of them. That was the first time they raped me. And before that night I did not even know what sex was like" K. says, who has to remain anonymous for legal reasons. Then she adds a disturbing detail: "Often they told us that we were nothing but white trash".

by Eugenia Fiore Bennati

Once you enter the tour, it is virtually impossible to get out of it. Everyday life turns into a nightmare based on torture and threats. Yes, because if at the age of 12 you are covered with gasoline on your head and they threaten to set you on fire, you do not say no. You let they rape you. And if they then threaten to set fire to your home and your family too, you get in that dark car waiting for you in front of the gate. From the stories of the victims, in addition to the gruesome nuances, a key factor emerges: these monsters were able to control the minds of the teenagers. It is as if they had somehow become their property. Property of their rapists. Just to give an example: the mother of one of the victims said that her daughter was in danger of getting hurt by jumping off the balcony of the first floor of the home, to go out after her attackers had ordered her to meet them. Another girl managed to escape the abuse after the Pakistani gang set fire to her home. As a result, the family had to relocate: "It was the best thing they could do to me, that of setting fire to my home."

"Used and abused at will"

The abuses took place between 2004 and 2011. The 20 men of Huddersfield, who are all part of the local Muslim community, were sentenced to Leeds Crown Court after three trials: they committed more than 120 crimes against 15 kids and girls. But, according to what emerged from the papers, one thing is sure: many aggressors have not yet been identified. The same applies to the victims. And it's not over here: it dates back to November 16, in fact, the news that another 30 people from the same country are accused of rape, mistreatment, trafficking in children and drugs. They will go to trial in a year.

The gang leader, Amere Singh Dhaliwal, a 35-year-old married with two children, was sentenced to life imprisonment. "The magnitude and severity of your violence far surpass all that I have seen in all my years of work", said one of the judges involved shortly before the sentence. The other beasts of the group took instead from five to 18 years. They used code names like "Dracula", "Bully" or "Beast". According to reports from other jurors in Leeds, the attackers, in particular, were predating young and vulnerable kids and girls. In fact, one of them would have had the mental age of a seven-year-old during the years of the nightmare.

National horror

But it's not just Huddersfield. It is all over the United Kingdom: it is Rotherham, Oxford, Rochdale, Newcastle, Keighley, Halifax, Bristol, Aylesbury, Peterborough, Telford, Banbury, Derby. And certainly many other cities.

Since 2005, around 300 men have been convicted of rape, child trafficking and kidnapping. Of these, 99% [1] belong to the local Muslim community. In particular, it is in 84% of cases of people of Pakistani origin. A smaller slice, on the other hand, is of Somali origin. Then there are to be considered that many processes and many investigations are still ongoing. Furthermore, the possibility of some of these gangs being connected to each other should not be ruled out, considering the fact that often the victims were taken to the other side of the country and then sold to other men.

This crime, until a few years ago, was rarely discussed in the country. It represented a kind of taboo. These sexual abuses were often ignored or even buried. In Rotherham, in fact, where 1400 girls have been raped and abused for years, the police [2] have publicly apologized for ignoring the countless requests for help from girls and families for years. Many policemen admitted that they were afraid of being identified as racist by addressing the topic. And so, the protection of institutional reputation or community cohesion came before the protection of these girls.

"We gang victims, covered with gasline and raped"

"A car has approached. Inside there were two Asian men. Later, one of them raped me". Katy is one of the victims of the Pakistani gang in Huddersfield. Victim of 20 animals condemned in total to more than 200 years in prison. They raped, tortured, drugged, kidnapped and sold girls and teenagers for years.

Katy, who is now a woman but during the years of the nightmare was 14, is one of them. She talks with difficulty. He does not want to remember. Alternatively, often, she can not do it. Yes, because often the orcs drugged her without her knowing. "That evening I do not know if I was raped by the other one too. I can not say it". "Were you conscious?" we ask. "No", she answers with a faint voice. Katy lost her virginity with violence. With that man who considered her only as "white trash". "They told us that we were just white whores. They were racists". For more than three years, this was her life. A reality equal to that of other teenagers and girls of Huddersfield (those found are about fifteen but, according to the judges of Leeds, they would be many more). The youngest of them was only 11 years old.

They, the orcs, are all of Pakistani origin and are part of the local Muslim community. They preyed on vulnerable girls with a complicated family situation because it was easier to lure and rape them. And even carry them around the United Kingdom to sell them and make them rape by others. "Once they brought me to Manchester in a hotel. First, they drugged me by putting something in my glass. Then someone came into the room and raped me" Katy says.

"Later they left me there. I did not know how to get home...". This is an example of the everyday life of these girls. Today they are women, but at the time - between 2004 and 2011 - they were only girls. "Have you ever tried to oppose, to say that you did not want to do it?". "Yes, but when I tried, they threatened me. Once they told me they would knock me out of the window" Katy says. The nightmare, for her, will only end at age 17. "I got pregnant with one of them. He was never accused of anything because there was not enough evidence. I think my child saved my life". "Why?" we ask. "Because suddenly it was like I was too old for them. They simply let me go".

But it's not just Huddersfield. It's all the United Kingdom. In total, from 2005 to date, there are about 300 convictions for rape, mistreatment and kidnapping of members of local Muslim communities. And even in these cases the victims are mostly of English origin. Yes, because for these orcs who raped and used them, they were just "white trash". It is impressive to find the same stories from other girls. We talked to Elizabeth and Sammy, victims of the Pakistani gangs of Rotherham and Swinton. Other years. Other men. The modalities, however, the same. "They were all Pakistani. The ladies, on the other hand, were white women converted to Islam" Elizabeth says. "Once I was segregated in an apartment for 10 weeks. Then they started selling me all over the country". We ask hem how many men raped her in those four years. "I can not say a specific number...".

"Once you enter this tunnel, you're already trapped. You can not get out of it. You start to feel like a property of them" Elizabeth adds. "If you were not doing what they ordered you, they threatened you with death. Some girls were covered with gasoline and then raped 30 or 40 times in the evening. You could not say no" Sammy remembers. In Great Britain they call it Grooming scandal, that is: soliciting scandal. "I think it's one of the most dangerous crimes. Because at first you do not know what's happening to you. So, it's like a silent crime. Then, once you realize it, it's already too late. You can not get out of it" Sammy says. "Once they tried to kill me. We were on this car and started going fast. Then even faster. We arrived at the top of a hill and told me that he would throw me off the cliff. Then, in the car, he raped me again. In those moments I was like a dead body in a morgue". They lured you, they raped you and then they threaten you. And they threaten your family too. "Sometimes they told me they would set fire to my house if I did not get on their car", Sammy says. "The police knew, but did nothing. They were afraid of being called racists". At the end of the interview, Elizabeth's eyes are bright. Many years have passed, but that nightmare is still inside her. She will never be free of it. "Today I always repeat that I'm lucky to still be alive".

Ukrainian President Poroshenko signs martial law decree

2018/11/26

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on the introduction of martial law in the country until January 25, 2019. The document was published on the website of the head of state on November 26.

"To enact the decision of the Council of National Security and Defense of Ukraine from November 26, 2018 "On emergency measures to ensure state sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and on the imposition of martial law in Ukraine," the decree says.

The decree about the introduction of martial law will have to be approved by the parliament of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada.

According to the Constitution of Ukraine, it is the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine that initiates the proposal to introduce martial law. The president then supports the proposition by issuing a relevant decree. After that, it is up to the Parliament of Ukraine to vote for its adoption. If the decree is approved, it shall come into force from the moment of its official publication in the media.

Earlier, Poroshenko said that the introduction of martial law in Ukraine would not trigger mandatory mobilization of the entire population.

Poroshenko's decree is connected with the incident in the Kerch Strait. On November 25, Russian FSB border guards detained three ships of the Ukrainian Navy after the latter entered the territorial waters of the Crimea and started performing dangerous maneuvers there ignoring the warning from Russian warships. Ukrainian officials claim, though, that the Crimea is part of the Ukrainian territory. Therefore, Ukraine is not supposed to warn Russia about the passage of its ships off the coast of the Crimea.

Ukraine’s Poroshenko wants Putin to explain attack on naval vessels and personnel

2018/11/26

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko appealed to the Russian authorities.

"I appeal to the administration of the Russian Federation demanding an immediate release of the Ukrainian military personnel, who, in violation of international law, were roughly detained and whose fate remains unknown," Poroshenko said.

Poroshenko demanded Russia should deliver both the seized Ukrainian ships and their crews to the Ukrainian side as a first step to deescalate tensions in the Sea of Azov. The President of Ukraine stressed that he was expecting Russian top officials to respond to this appeal.

It was reported that three Ukrainian military men were taken to a hospital in the city of Kerch after they were wounded in the clash between Russian and Ukrainian warships in the Kerch Strait on November 25. Their condition is said to be stable.

On November 25, a FSB border patrol detained three ships of the Naval Forces of Ukraine - the Berdyansk and the Nikopol boats, as well as the Yany Kapu tugboat in the Kerch Strait. The Ukrainian ships entered the territorial waters of the Crimea, did not respond to the requirement to stop, but started performing dangerous maneuvers instead.

Putin's official spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the incident with the Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait was a dangerous provocation.

"This is a very dangerous provocation, which, of course, requires special attention and special investigation," said Peskov at a news briefing on Monday, November 26, adding that events in the strait would be considered at the urgent meeting of UN Security Council that Moscow is summoning.

Russia and Ukraine clash in Kerch Strait off Crimea. Ukrainian navy men wounded

2018/11/26

Officials with the Federal Security Bureau of Russia said that Russian border guards detained three ships of the Ukrainian Navy as the latter were trying to travel across the Black Sea from the port of Odessa to the port of Mariupol in the Sea of Azov. The Ukrainian warships committed a number of provocative acts, FSB officials said.

Russian warships and boats of the Black Sea Fleet were escorting the Ukrainian ships and asking them to stop. However, the commanders of the Ukrainian ships ignored the requests. Russia was forced to use weapons to stop the Ukrainian vessels. As a result, three Ukrainian ships were detained. Three Ukrainian navy men were wounded in the incident. They received medical assistance, their lives are out of danger, FSB officials said.

Russia filed a criminal case into the violation of the Russian state border. The arrested Ukrainian ships will be transported to the port of Kerch. On November 25, the Kerch Strait was closed to civilian vessels for security reasons, but navigation was opened at 4 a.m.

Representatives of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the incident occurred in neutral waters. It still remains unknown, however, where exactly the Ukrainian ships violated the Russian border as Russian FSB officials claim. At the same time, Moscow and Kiev share a different approach to the question of territorial waters of the Russian Federation. "The Crimea is a territory of Ukraine. There is not a single legal ground for the Ukrainian authorities to notify the Russians of the passage of Ukrainian ships there," a source close to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

Meanwhile, Alexander Turchinov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, said that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko supported the initiative of the National Security Council to introduce martial law in the country for 60 days. The Verkhovna Rada (the Ukrainian Parliament) will consider the issue on Monday, November 26.

"We view Russia's actions as an act of aggression," Poroshenko tweeted. "For the Russian Federation, there are no red lines. We believe that such actions are absolutely unacceptable. This aggression has already led to certain consequences," Poroshenko wrote.

In turn, Russia has requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council.. "In connection with the dangerous development of the situation in the Sea of Azov and the following events, Russia is requesting an urgent convocation of an open meeting of the Security Council in the morning of November 26 for the agenda item "Maintaining international peace and security," Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Polyansky said.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Facebook that the Ukrainian army was put on high alert, while heavy security was rolled out for the Ukrainian police.
