How St.Petersburg Most Famous Bridge Works, Being Lifted Each Night

2017/08/18

This is a photo report by Russian blogger Aslan on how the big Leningrad now St.Petersburg Alexander Nevsky bridge is being raised at night. Probably many of you saw the picture of Leningrad with the bridge raised open.

The weather was rainy that night. Normal St.Petersburg weather. This section of the bridge is going to be raised to let the ships pass.

The security post on the right doesn’t let anyone pass without checking the permissions and IDs.

To get on their jobs people working here have to climb those steep ladders.

Those are hydraulic cylinders with their help the bridge is being opened and raised. Total there are eight of those. It covered with tarp so that not get dirty.  A part of the bridge would be lowered right in here in a few minutes.

Because there are holes in the bridge rain comes right in here.
