The Russian proposal not to deploy weapons in space faced refusal of 4 countries. These are the US, Georgia, Israel, and Ukraine. The corresponding resolution was introduced into the UN General Assembly. 25 authors of the document suggested voters not to deploy weapon systems in space first. As a result, the majority stood for adoption of the resolution. The EU member-states mainly abstained.
While the United States preferred to explain its stance. According to Washington, the document defines the danger, which the resolution warns of, quite vaguely. 'Political adherence' will hardly be controlled even after the voting. Beside that, the matter concerns only bases in space itself, while nothing is said about ground-based anti-satellite weapons.
