SOCHI, October 11. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit on Sunday in the Black Sea port of Sochi the Russian stage of the Formula 1 race and hold a number of meetings, including with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
The second in Russia’s history Formula 1 race and the international motor racing in the GP2 and GP3 series are held on Sochi Autodrom in the Olympic Park from October 8 to October 11. According to Peskov, "the president will attend these competitions" on Sunday.
The Kremlin spokesman noted that the Russian leader " will meet there with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi who will also attend the race." Peskov added that "that is a a separate meeting, separate talks."
Putin met with Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan seven times since 2006. Their previous talks were held at the MAKS-2015 International Air Show in Zhukovsky, near Moscow in late August. One of the issues discussed at the meeting was the situation in the Middle East, including in Syria. The current meeting of the Russian leader and the representative of the United Arab Emirates will take place amid the operation of the Russian Aerospace Forces in support of the Syrian army in the fight against terrorism.
Peskov also said Putin may hold other meetings on Sunday as well. "The race will be traditionally attended, on the one hand, by one of the main sponsors of this event, and, on the other, by the head of one of the largest Italian companies, which also extensively invests and has its enterprises in Russia - Pirelli," the Kremlin spokesman noted. "Putin will hold a separate meeting with [the head of] Pirelli as well, other contacts are possible too."
Russia won the right to hold the race on October 14, 2010. The agreement with the Formula One Group provides holding Russia Grand Prix stages annually between 2014 and 2020.
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said at the end of last month that the negotiations were under way on extending the contract for the coming years, as well on moving the races from the day time to the "more colorful" night time.
