Multiple injuries at Oklahoma State University parade as car rams into crowd

2015/10/24

At least two people are reported to have been killed and several more injured after a vehicle crashed into a crowd during the homecoming parade at Oklahoma State University in the city of Stillwater.

The incident took place on Saturday morning, leaving many people injured, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lieutenant John Vincent, told AP, without revealing further details.

The Stillwater News Press puts the death toll at two people adding that more than a dozen more have been injured.

At the same time, Stillwater’s mayor said that three people had been killed dead and 27 taken to hospital, including two victims in critical condition, the Local News on 6 TV station reported.

The car that plowed into the bystanders was not part of the homecoming parade, News on 6 reported, adding that there are claims that it may have been a police unit.

At first we thought it was part of the show,” Konda Walker told the Stillwater News Press. “People were flying 30 feet into the air like rag dolls.”

Several witnesses also said the driver was a woman. She was taken to custody.

Oklahoma State University (OSU) wrote on Twitter that it’s “saddened by the tragic parade incident earlier this morning. Our thoughts & prayers are with those affected."

OSU’s homecoming weekend festivities are among the largest in US, attracting thousands of people annually.
