2015/10/13

MOSCOW, October 13. /TASS/. The shelling of the Russian embassy in Damascus is a terrorist attack aimed at intimidating supporters of fighting against terrorism, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.

"This is obviously a terrorist attack aimed at intimidating supporters of the fight against terrorism and at preventing them from dominating in the fight against extremists," Lavrov said. "We hope that the perpetrators will be established and measures to prevent such incidents in the future will be taken," he added.

Two mines fell on the territory of the Russian embassy in Syria in the morning, no one was injured.

Last month, the Russian embassy in Damascus was subjected to artillery shelling. On September 20, a mortar shell fell on the territory of the embassy but did not detonate. The Russian Foreign Ministry said the embassy was shelled from the direction of the Dzhobar district "where anti-government militants are based."
