Inaugural World Olympians Forum kicks off in Russian capital

MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. The inaugural World Olympians Forum (WOF) kicked off on Wednesday in the Russian capital of Moscow bringing together current and former Olympians as well as leading figures from the Olympic Movement as well as high profile Olympians and senior figures from the Olympic Movement.

"Dear Olympians, dear guests, welcome to Moscow. Today we are experiencing a very exciting moment, which is the very first Olympians Forum," Joel Bouzou, the president of the World Olympians Association (WOA), said opening the forum in downtown Moscow.

"Olympians arrived from 120 counties," Bouzou, who competed in the modern pentathlon at four consecutive Olympic Games between 1980 and 1992, said.

"Our task is to understand what we are thinking about, inspire each other and help each other," Bouzou said. "Today we will discuss issues of how we can help the [Olympic] associations, the youth and how we can resolve the gender gap issues."

The 2015 WOF will be joined later in the afternoon by Thomas Bach, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Russian President Vladimir Putin, Alexander Zhukov, the president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Prince Albert II of Monaco, IOC Executive Board Member and International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Vice President Sergey Bubka and many other prominent Olympians and state officials.
