MOSCOW, October 16. /TASS/. Proposals from Ukraine's government for United Nations cultural agency activity in Crimea have been rejected by UNESCO's executive board, says Russia's Foreign Ministry.
Kiev's plans failed to secure consensus for action falling within the agency's area of competence, the ministry said on Friday.
"An increase has again been noted in the number of countries disagreeing with the Ukrainian approach," the statement added.
Proposals were rejected in voting among board representatives of 58 member-states assembled in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on October 14.
Kiev's document was endorsed by 19 votes representing European Union states, the United States, Japan and South Korea. Two-thirds of the executive refused to back the document: Russia, India, China and Cuba voted against and 26 countries abstained, the Russian ministry reported.
Ten ambassadors left the hall to avoid voting.
