Ukraine to legalize prostitution to survive

2015/09/22

An MP of the Ukrainian parliament, Andrei Nemirovsky, proposed to legalize prostitution in the country. The draft law has already been registered. The explanatory note states that "the development of Ukraine as a European state raises the need for legal regulation in the sphere of prostitution and sex institutions."

Prostitution is legal in many countries of the European Union. Sex tourism is very popular in the Netherlands and in Greece. In Greece, the price for sex starts from 30 euros. According to the Ukrainian MP, this money brings very good taxes to the budgets of European countries. Yet, Ukraine receives nothing from prostitution because this form of business is banned in the country.

In addition, Andrei Nemirovsky believes that legal prostitution will protect the Ukrainian population from sex slavery and lower the unemployment level.  The project will not require expenses from the state budget, the official believes.  The law has already been published on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
