MOSCOW, September 29. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would welcome any contacts with the future US president, whoever he or she will be.
"We welcome any contacts with the future US president, whoever he or she will be. Any person who gains trust of the American people may rest assured of our cooperation," Putin told US journalist Charlie Rose in an interview with CBS and PBS.
The Russian leader added he knew that one of the candidates for the US president, Donald Trump, would like to meet him.
The 58th presidential election in the United States is scheduled for November 8, 2016.
Putin said he didn’t follow the election campaign on a daily basis. "But it is interesting for us to know what is happening in the US," Putin said. He added that the US "is a major world power, and today it is an economic and military leader - no doubt about it. That is why America has a strong influence on the situation in the world in general."
"Of course, it is interesting for us to know what is happening there," the president said. "We closely follow the developments in the US, but if you wonder whether we follow the ups and downs of their political life on a daily basis - I would rather say no than yes.".
