Regular shelling by Ukraine results in fires in Gorlovka — city administration

2015/07/01

MOSCOW, July 2. /TASS/. A regular shelling of the city of Gorlovka in the Donetsk Region on the part of Ukraine’s army has caused several fires in the city’s northwest, the municipal administration said in a statement.

"The Nikitovsky District was shelled approximately from 20:00 to 22:00," the Donetsk News Agency quoted an administration spokesman as saying.

He said there were at least three fires, adding that the Armed Forces of Ukraine opened fire from positions near Dzerzhinsk.

No casualties have been reported yet.

Ukrainian troops have been engaged in fierce fighting with local militias during Kiev’s military operation, underway since mid-April 2014, against the breakaway territories - the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics constituting parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine. The clashes have killed thousands.

The Trilateral Contact Group on settlement in east Ukraine comprising representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe [OSCE] on February 12, 2015 signed a 13-point Package of Measures on implementation of the September 2014 Minsk agreements.

The Package of Measures [Minsk-2], earlier agreed with the Normandy Four [Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine], included cessation of fire from February 15, withdrawal of heavy armaments, as well as measures on long-term political settlement in Ukraine, in particular establishment of working subgroups.

The ceasefire has been repeatedly violated by Kiev.
