IAEA confirms Amano's visit to Tehran on July 1-2

VIENNA, July 1. / TASS/. The chief of the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukia Amano, will depart for Tehran on Wednesday to hold talks with Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, the IAEA said in a statement.

"IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano travels to Tehran today for meetings with President Hassan Rouhani and other senior Iranian officials on Thursday," IAEA said.

IAEA said Amano's meetings in Tehran will focus on the ongoing cooperation between the agency and the Islamic Republic aimed to achieve a final agreement on Iran's nuclear program.

Amano hopes "to accelerate the resolution of all outstanding issues related to Iran’s nuclear program, including clarification of possible military dimensions," the nuclear agency said.

According to IAEA, Iran has failed to provide exhaustive information on two practical aspects about which the international experts are concerned.

Tehran insists on the need to specify the procedure of work with the International Atomic Energy Agency on clarifying these issues.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said earlier the Iranians were right to insist that a line should be drawn after a certain amount of operations on collecting information are conducted if this satisfies the IAEA experts.

Iran’s representatives are currently in talks in Austria’s capital Vienna with the P5+1 group (five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) on Tehran’s nuclear dossier.

The discussions were originally expected to end on June 30, which Iran and the world powers had set as a deadline for striking a historic deal that would allow both controlling Iran’s nuclear program by the international community and lifting sanctions against Tehran.

However, on Tuesday the talks were extended by one week until July 7 so that experts and political directors could complete the work on agreeing on all the sensitive issues of the final 80-page document.
