MOSCOW, June 26. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who on Thursday evening for the second time over the last 2.5 months arrived in Khakassia, will check on Friday the progress of housing restoration after major wildfires hit the republic in Eastern Siberia in April.
According to the Kremlin press service, Putin will hold a meeting in Khakassia on coping with the disaster consequences in the republic in the Trans-Baikal Territory. "In addition, the president will visit the Ust-Byur village construction site to check the progress of the construction of houses for the Khakassia residents affected by wildfires," the press service said.
Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, said that "Putin will fly in a helicopter over the wildfire-hit areas." "He will observe from the helicopter the construction work progress in several locations. He will inspect the construction and hold a meeting at one of the sites on the ground," Peskov told reporters.
He said that the president has already visited the affected region before and held a meeting, inter alia, on the issue of restoration of lost housing. "It was then that the president promised that he would take an inspection trip to monitor the progress of the housing restoration. "That’s exactly the inspection trip Putin spoke about," said the presidential press secretary.
Putin last time visited the republic’s capital Abakan on April 21. "We will create the necessary infrastructure and organise the whole restoration activity so that this should be done in due order, with due quality and on time," the president said then at a meeting with the republic’s residents in an accommodation centre. He added that the region had a harsh climate and autumnal cold weather usually came early enough there. At a following meeting, Putin set the task to complete all the restoration work by September 1.
Hurricane winds that hit Khakassia on April 12 was one of the reasons for large-scale wildfires, which completely destroyed or damaged more than 1,600 houses and killed 32 people.
The republic’s emergency response headquarters told TASS that currently, "about 800 residential houses in 35 villages are being built simultaneously." The government of Khakassia said that 266 new houses are being built in the worst hit by wildfires Shira settlement, in which 400 houses were destroyed by fire. In the nearby Kopyevo village where 155 houses burned down, 113 houses are now under construction.
"It will take about 3 billion roubles to restore housing for the fire victims, the social infrastructure facilities’ restoration will require 390 million roubles. Another 175 million roubles are needed for the restoration of the public utilities and road infrastructure.
