MOSCOW, June 29. /TASS/. Moscow condemns the deadly attack on Egypt’s state prosecutor Hisham Barakat, the Russian foreign ministry said on Monday.

"Moscow resolutely condemns this clearly purported crime," the ministry said. "Once again, we reiterate our principled position of categorical aversion to any terrorist attacks regardless of the motives their instigators and committer might be driven by."

The ministry expressed "Russia’s solidarity with the Egyptian people in its struggle against the global terrorist threat and support the Egyptian leaders’ efforts towards the stabilization of the situation in the country."

Barakat, who has been Egypt’s state prosecutor for the past two years, was fatally wounded on Monday after his motorcade was hit by a bomb in Cairo. The bomb was planted in a parked car and activated remotely. The blast shattered his armoured car. The Al-Watan newspaper cited a police source as saying Barakat had died in hospital of internal bleeding.

The People’s Resistance group, which is said to be loyal to Moslem Brotherhood, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
