MOSCOW, June 26. /TASS/. Damage from the recent flooding in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi is preliminarily estimated at 200-300 million rubles ($3.61-5.4 million), acting governor of the Krasnodar Territory Veniamin Kondratyev told the Rossiya-1 television channel on Friday.
"The damage will be calculated by the evening after the inspection of affected households is over. According to preliminary data, about 750 houses were damaged by water," he said, adding that a compensation of 10,000 rubles ($180) would be paid to each person affected by the flooding. He said a sum of 50,000 rubles ($904) would be paid in case of partial loss of property and a sum of 100,000 rubles ($1,808) in case of complete loss of property. "It means that a preliminary sum of damage is 200-300 million rubles," he said, adding that works to eliminate the flooding aftermaths would be over by the end of the day.
The Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, which hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics, was hit by the worst rainfall in the history of weather records and is bracing up for more showers, meteorologists said earlier on Friday. "Sochi recorded 212 millimeters of rain from Wednesday night to Thursday evening," a spokesman for the Russian Hydrometeorological Center said adding that the city would normally record just 104 millimeters of rain in June. He said more rainfall was expected to hit Sochi during the weekend but it would not be as disastrous.
