MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. Russia’s space control center has established communications with the Progress M-27M space freighter, Mission Control said on Tuesday.
"The spacecraft appeared within the area of operation of Russian communications," the space control center said.
Previous reports said a command would be given to the Progress space freighter for opening of the Kurs docking system’s antennas after communications were established with the spacecraft.
A Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket blasted off with the Progress space freighter from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan at 10:09 Moscow time (07:09 GMT) on Tuesday. Russia’s Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) later reported that the spacecraft had been delivered into a near-Earth orbit.
The Progress space freighter was scheduled to dock with the International Space Station at 04:07 p.m. Moscow time (01:07 GMT) but later it was reported that telemetric data were not coming from the Progress spaceship.
The Progress space freighter has about 2.5 tons of cargo on its board and also a copy of the Banner of the Soviet Victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two.
