Russia will do everything to prevent WW II horrors from being repeated — Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. Some political circles in the West are pursuing a policy aimed at distorting the historical truth for time-serving reasons, Russia’s State Secretary and Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin told on Tuesday the International Victors’ Forum "The Great Victory Won by Unity".

"It’s no secret to anyone that the events that took place in recent years have led to profound changes in the atmosphere of modern international relations," Karasin said. "We are seeing increasingly more often that far from all lessons of the most terrible tragedy of the 20th century have been learnt. We are witnessing large-scale misinterpretations of historical facts, the shift of emphasis in the evaluation of the events of the past in line with some current political trends."

"We see the attempts by certain political circles in the West to pursue a policy aimed at enhancing efforts to distort historical truth," the Russian high-ranking diplomat said. "I’m sure that we are able to effectively deal with similar new challenges."

"In the course of joint events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism, it’s important to pay special attention to the struggle against the glorification of Nazism, the manifestations of the contemporary forms of Nazism, racism and xenophobia," Karasin noted. "I sincerely hope that today’s forum will serve the cause of true reflection of our joint heroic history and will become a shining example of true-to-life perception of the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany."

According to the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, the current generation must do everything to make sure that "the feats of heroism of our fathers and grandfathers live through the ages." "I want to bow to all war veterans and assure you that we will try to do everything in our power to ensure that "the feats of heroism, struggle, the outcomes of our Victory live in our descendants and that the horrors of the great war your generation lived through, the bitterness of deprivation and pain are never repeated again," Karasin said.
