TOKYO, April 27. /TASS/. The death toll caused by the 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Nepal may reach some 8,000 people as relief operation continues following the devastating natural calamity, The Himalayan Times daily reported on Monday.
According to the most recent reports from AFP and Reuters, the confirmed number of deaths in Nepal already reached 3,218 and the number of injured exceeds 6,500. At least 90 people were killed as a result of the earthquake in India and China.
A devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake rocked Nepal on Saturday. As many as 48 aftershocks with a magnitude ranging from 3.5 to 6.9 have been registered following the earthquake.
The latest magnitude 4.1 aftershock was registered at 18:41 local time (16:11 Moscow time). Its epicenter was located 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) southeast of Kathmandu and at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
Numerous countries sent their rescuers to help Nepal in relief operation, including Russia, which sent two Ilyushin Il-76 planes with rescuers and equipment.
