MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. Russia is taking measures on increasing the number of the country's properties on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday.
"I would propose to seek the increase in the number of Russian sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List," Lavrov said.
The particular work is underway on the Sviyazhsk, Astrakhan, Rostov, Pskov and Uglich Kremlins, the Valaamsk Archipelago, Divnogorye in the Voronezh region, Kenozersk Park in the Arkhangelsk region, he said.
The Russian foreign minister reminded that last year the Bolgar Historical and Archaeological Complex, in Russia's Republic of Tatarstan, was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List.
"Of course, many things here depend on the federal center, the government’s commission for cooperation with UNESCO and also on the efforts of regional authorities," Lavrov added.
There are currently 26 Russian sites on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, both cultural and natural, and 27 properties have been submitted on the tentative list, according to the organization’s website.
