MOSCOW, October 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Southern Military District (SMD) troops return to regular station after their participation in massive drills in Russia’s southern Rostov region, Defense Ministry's press-service said Sunday.
On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to launch the process of returning the troops to regular station. Presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said a total of 17,600 troops have taken part in the drills.
The spokesperson added that the Russian President and the Defense Minister have met following Vladimir Putin’s meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council earlier on Saturday.
According to Peskov, the minister reported to Putin on the end of the summer period of military training on the SMD testing areas.
