Medvedev Approves Rules for Giving Subsidies to Russian Regions for Gas-Powered Technology

MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) – Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed a decree on the rules for granting subsidies to the subjects of the Russian Federation for the purchase of gas-powered buses and household technology, a statement released on the Russian government website Monday said.


According to the statement, by 2020, natural gas must be used as fuel for 50 percent of all public road transport and utility services units in cities with a population of over 1 million, 30 percent of the units in cities with a population of over 300,000, and 10 percent of the units in towns with a population of more than 100,000 people.


The new regulations will ensure the purchase of about 1,500 buses and 1,000 pieces of household utilities equipment in 2014. 19,500 buses and 23,700 units of equipment working on gas fuel must be purchased by 2020.


According to the statement, the implementation of the new plan will contribute to the renewal of public transport and technology, improve safety and city ecology and support the car industry of the Customs Union.
