Vostok-1 Rocket Fragment With Gagarin's Signature Sold in Berlin for $9,700

BERLIN, September 14 (RIA Novosti) – The Vostok-1 rocket fragment with the signature of Yuri Gagarin has been sold at the auction in Berlin for 7,500 euros [about $9,700].


The Soviet Space Memorabilia Auction is held by the auction house Auctionata. The fragment of the rocket is a lot at No. 69, a small piece of metal the size of 2.2-1.7 inches. The starting price of the lot was designated as 3,000 euros [about $3,877].


All 104 lots are a personal collection of Andreas Hoge, a German artist. Hoge's stage name is Andora, he was one of the authors, who painted the Proton rocket at Baikonur in 1992.


During his long stay in Russia, Hoge was trained to be a cosmonaut, made friends with cosmonaut Vladimir Dzhanibekov, and added a lot of space-related showpieces to his collection. Now Hoge wants to put things in order and part with some objects from the collection, leaving only a few items to himself, including the diploma of the cosmonaut.


The auctions are held in the online mode, collectors from all over the world are sending requests to the auction house. The most notable and most expensive lots were Andora's sketches, their starting price is about $2,500, and the Fortis & Andora wristwatch – about $3,870.
