Russian Lawmaker: Russia-US Dialogue Possible If Washington Gives Up ‘Exceptionalism’

2014/09/13

MOSCOW, September 13 (RIA Novosti) - US Lawmakers have to give up the idea of their nation's exceptionalism in order for a dialogue between Russian and US parliaments to resume, the speaker of the State Duma, lower house of Russian Parliament, Sergei Naryshkin told the press Saturday.

"In order [for Russian and US lawmakers] to meet and talk, the American party … has to understand that every dialogue, and especially an inter-parliamentary dialogue, must be conducted on the basis of equality, with the respect of the partners' opinions. But to do this American lawmakers must give up the pattern of domination; give up the idea … of the American nation's exceptionalism," Naryshkin stressed.
