Russian Foreign Ministry: Attempts to Derail Ukrainian Ceasefire Must Not be Tolerated

2014/09/17

MOSCOW, September 17 (RIA Novosti) - Attempts to derail the ceasefire between Kiev forces and independence supporters of eastern Ukraine must be addressed decisively, Russian Foreign Ministry's Special Representative for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, Konstantin Dolgov said Wednesday in a tweet.

"The attempts by the "war party" in Kiev to derail the truce have to be addressed decisively by those, who are truly interested in stopping the bloodshed," Dolgov wrote.

He added that the United Nation's report which states that as of September 11 there have been at least 3,171 people including 27 children who have fallen victim to the Ukrainian conflict "causes alarm and concern."

"The killing of residents in southeastern Ukraine must not be allowed to continue," Dolgov concluded.

According to the UN, the Kiev-led military operation against the pro-independence movement of Ukraine's South-East, launched in April, has killed almost 3,200 civilians. Another 8,000 people have been wounded.

Since September 5, both parties in the conflict have been adhering to a ceasefire.
