Russia Plans Creating State Program for Software Development by June 2016

MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has instructed the country's ministries to draft a state program for development of the Russian software by June 2, 2016.


"For the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade <…> together with the Russian Ministry of Communications to elaborate and to submit to the Government of the Russian Federation according to the procedure established the subprogram "The development of the domestic engineering software"," the list of instructions published on the Russian Government website Wednesday said.


The decision was made following a Russian Council Presidium meeting on the modernization of the economy and innovative development. At the meeting, Medvedev proposed including new production technologies to the list of priority areas for the development of science and technology and to the list of so-called critically important technologies.


After the meeting, the Industry and Trade Ministry was instructed to ensure the elaboration of the "New Production Technologies" project, including in the sphere of automation and robotics development and the development of domestic software.


In August, Communications Ministry head Nikolai Nikiforov said that his department is preparing measures for the substitution of imported software, and that such measures can be implemented within three to seven years.
